Family Holds 'FUNeral' to Honor Dad Who Died from Stroke at 39: 'Perfect Way to Celebrate' Him

Brandon Young reportedly died on May 17 after experiencing a hemorrhagic stroke caused by high blood pressure

A family in Arizona recently held a “FUNeral” for a dad of three who died earlier this year after having a stroke.

Brandon Young died on May 17 after a hemorrhagic stroke caused by high blood pressure, according to Fox News and Newsweek. He was just 39.

To celebrate his life, Brandon’s loved ones held a very special celebration of life that was all about having fun — and was attended by over 500 people.

Brandon’s wife Katie told Fox News her husband, who had been working to keep his blood pressure under control since he was a teenager, was “the kindest person."

"He was the most happy, positive, easygoing person who always brought a sense of community," she added.

Katie met Brandon in 2007 while visiting his home with a friend to watch a movie, according to SWNS. The two got married the following year and welcomed three kids together: Eleanor, 12, Clyde, 10, and Ingrid, 8.

Instead of planning a typical funeral, the family opted to honor Brandon by doing and sharing things he loved, including music and art.

Each table at the event had plates of chips and salsa, one of Brandon’s favorite snacks, as well as bowls of Brandon’s favorite candies.

One station even allowed attendees to draw funny hairstyles on a photo of Brandon, who was known for frequently changing his hair. “I really just wanted it to be about all of his favorite things," Katie told Newsweek.

Highlights from the event were even shared in a TikTok video that has been viewed more than three million times.

"Although there were still many tears shed that night, it didn't feel as 'heavy' as funerals I've been to in the past,” family friend Sicily Wilcock, who shared the footage on TikTok, told Newsweek.

"It felt warm, familiar, and like it wasn't really the end,” Wilcock continued. “As part of our shared faith, we believe we live on after we die, and that families can be together forever.”

She added, “This doesn't make saying goodbye any easier, but there's a feeling of comfort and gratitude that coincides with the grief we feel, and that was felt that night at the FUNeral. It was the perfect way to celebrate Brandon."
