Former NFL Wide Receiver Devon Wylie Dead at 35: ‘No Words to Express the Sadness’

Devon Wylie, a former wide receiver in the NFL, has died at the age of 35, according to multiple reports.

A family member of Wylie's confirmed the news on social media, according to Fresno's Action News. The outlet also reported that multiple former teammates of Wylie's were aware of his death.

A cause of death has not been made public as of Wednesday morning.

According to Yahoo Sports, the unidentified family member's post said the family "wanted to make this post so people who knew and loved Devon could learn of his passing because we don't have the capacity to reach out to everyone in this hard time."

The post continued, "There are no words to express the sadness that comes from losing a brother, dear friend and an amazing uncle. Devon had so much love and joy to give."

"Always making people laugh and entertaining us with his football skills, guitar jams, silly jokes and voices, back-flip tricks, fun banter, Star Wars obsession chat, Halo nights and not to mention his beautiful smile. We will miss him always."

Fresno State's Bulldogs shared a tribute to Wylie on Tuesday following the confirmation of his death.

Wylie played for Fresno State from 2007 through 2011. He recorded 98 catches, 1,327 yards, and eight touchdowns.

"Forever a bulldog. Our thoughts are with the Wylie family during this difficult time," the school's post on X (formerly known as Twitter) said.

During his NFL career, Wylie played for multiple teams. He was selected in the fourth round of the 2012 Draft by the Kansas City Chiefs, and played six games for them that season before being released.

He also played two games with the Tennessee Titans was was on practice squads with five other teams before transferring to the Canadian Football League in 2016.
