Heart Postpones 2024 Tour as Ann Wilson Reveals Cancer Diagnosis: 'This Is Merely a Pause'

Heart rocker Ann Wilson is offering fans an update on her health.

The musician, 74, announced on Tuesday, July 2 that she recently underwent surgery for cancer, and as a result, will take the rest of the year off.

“Dear friends, I recently underwent an operation to remove something that, as it turns out, was cancerous,” she wrote on Instagram. “The operation was successful & I’m feeling great but my doctors are now advising me to undergo a course of preventative chemotherapy & I've decided to do it.”

Wilson said that due to her treatment, her doctors had advised her to “take the rest of the year away from the stage in order to fully recover,” and that she would therefore be postponing Heart’s Royal Flush Tour, which was set to begin in Cleveland on July 30 and run through December.

“To the ticket buyers, I really do wish we could do these gigs. Please know that I absolutely plan to be back on stage in 2025,” she wrote. “My team is getting those details sorted & we’ll let you know the plan as soon as we can.”

The “Barracuda” singer continued by thanking fans for their support, and assuring them that she would be back onstage soon.

“This is merely a pause. I’ve much more to sing,” she wrote. “Love, Ann Wilson. Respectfully, this is the last public statement I’d like to make on the matter.”

In a statement shared to Heart's official Instagram page, the band added, "More information to be announced in the coming weeks."

The announcement comes weeks after Wilson and her sister Nancy, 70, announced the cancellation of a string of June and July concerts in Europe due to health concerns.

The rockers said at the time that Wilson had to “undergo a time-sensitive but routine medical procedure” that required at least six weeks of recovery.

“I’m okay! Please don’t worry,” she wrote on Instagram at the time. “I do apologize for any inconvenience this may cause. It’s certainly an inconvenience for me. Love & respect always, Ann.”

Heart last played a series of North American concert dates in April and late May.

The band, which was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2013, reunited in 2019 after a three-year hiatus, and celebrated 50 years as a group in 2023.

“Back when I started, I didn’t even believe I’d live to be 30,” Wilson told PEOPLE in 2022. “In your early 20s, you just go, ‘I’ll never get old.’ I never dreamed it would go on 50 years. For me, it’s the bomb. When it’s all going right, there’s nothing like it.”
