Travis Kelce Says He's 'Over' Reality TV as He Reveals Netflix Series He Turned Down

Travis Kelce is quite familiar with cameras following him around as he trots around the globe with girlfriend Taylor Swift and brings fans to their feet on the football field — but while the Super Bowl champ likes flexing his acting skills in front of the camera, he is completely “over” the world of reality TV.

During a recent appearance on the Bussin’ With The Boys podcast, Kelce, 34, was asked how he felt about joining the upcoming Netflix reality series Receiver, which is a follow-up to the streamer’s 2023 series Quarterback that featured his teammate and Super Bowl MVP Patrick Mahomes.

“After Pat did it, I did get asked about it. I don’t know. I’d rather just play ball, man. I’m already doing enough with the podcast and everything,” Kelce said of being approached to do the show.

“I’m way over the reality s---. I’m out on that s---,” he added.

Kelce’s attitude towards reality TV may have to do with the short-lived dating reality series Catching Kelce, which he starred in on E! back in 2016. The tight end vividly recalled his experience on the show when he hosted Saturday Night Live in March 2023. “It was kind of like The Bachelor, except instead of roses I handed out footballs," he began in his monologue.

"And instead of watching, people did not,” Kelce continued to joke. “It was a little embarrassing, but I got really good at reality TV.”

Although he may be done with reality TV,  but Kelce is definitely open to the world of scripted television, as he landed a role in the upcoming Ryan Murphy horror drama Grotesquerie, in which he will make his acting debut.

"It's been so much fun," he said on the May 14 episode of his New Heights podcast. "Ryan Murphy is [an] unbelievable writer, director, producer, all of the above, man. He's just — there's nothing he can't do and everybody's just been so helpful in making me feel comfortable."

Kelce added, "Even on top of that, just giving me kinda the direction I need and the coaching I need to portray the part that I'm in." 

Receiver follows five of the NFL’s best pass catchers throughout the 2023 season on and off the field: Davante Adams, Justin Jefferson, George Kittle, Deebo Samuel and Amon-Ra St. Brown, per an official release. It drops on Netflix on July 10 with eight episodes.
