File access on DRS

Is it possible to access files on a Disaster Recovery instance?

I recently enabled DRS on our Windows/SQL instance. Boss asked me if we could recover specific files instead of recovering the entire server.

I couldn't see a way to connect to the recovery instance that DRS creates.

The EBS volumes attached to the replication instance should have EBS snapshots constantly created of them. If you want to access the current contents of the disk, you should be able to choose the latest snapshot from the standard snapshot view in the EC2 console and create a new volume from the snapshot. That volume will be completely independent of DRS, so you can attach it to any unrelated EC2 instance, such as a freshly launched new EC2 instance, and mount the disk to access the files.

I'm not quite sure why you want to use the replication instance, though, instead of accessing the files on the source server. If you meant finding files from an earlier point in time, that would require an older snapshot not likely to exist made around that earlier point in time.

The replication instance cannot be accessed, as you saw.
