Mrs. Simpson is the drama teacher at Bayside High. She is very hard of hearing and either mishears her students or doesn't hear them at all.

History[]

Mrs. Simpson taught a class on Romeo and Juliet. She didn't hear the bell ring when she came in, nor did she hear any of her students answer her questions, so she just assumed nobody knew the answers. She watched Screech and Lisa act out a love scene, but she misheard everything they were talking about and thought they were doing a sword fighting scene. She then had Zack and Kelly do a Romeo and Juliet scene and she thought it was lovely. She got up to applaud them but then threw her back out and got locked. According to her, this was an old hockey injury. The students set her up on some scooters and wheeled her over to the nurse's office. Mr. Belding noticed Mrs. Simpson's injury and gave her some time off to recover from her injury. In her absence, she was substituted by Tony Crane.[1]

Mrs. Simpson later taught the class about William Shakespeare and failed to hear the bell or her students answer any of her questions. Zack tried to get himself in trouble in Mrs. Simpson's class on purpose so that he could get sent to Mr. Belding's office. However, every time he said something funny in Mrs. Simpson's class, she misheard what he said and assumed he was giving her the right answers to all of her questions. It wasn't until Zack accidentally dropped a book on the floor that Mrs. Simpson got mad and sent him to Mr. Belding's office. After Zack left, Mrs. Simpson stated that she did not like him.[2]

On another occasion, Mrs. Simpson didn't hear her class wish her a good morning and scolded them for being so rude. She started a poetry class and asked if anyone would like to read their poems. She didn't hear Screech volunteer himself so she called him up, as though he never volunteered. While Screech was reading his poem, Mrs. Simpson interrupted him, telling him that he could begin once he was ready, having not heard him talking. Screech said he wanted to mention his lizard, Oscar, in the poem but he couldn't find a rhyme. Mrs. Simpson thought he asked the time and told him it was 9:30. She thought Lisa's poem about the mall was about The Rocky Mountains. The next day in class, Mrs. Simpson overheard Kelly and Jessie talking about the former's relationship with Zack. They were surprised that Mrs. Simpson heard them and Mrs. Simpson showed them that she was wearing a hearing aid now that helped her hear once again. Unfortunately, this was at the cost of everything sounding way louder than it really was. Every time someone talked in her class, Mrs. Simpson would scream in pain and agony as this was painful for her. Mrs. Simpson tried to teach the class about Percy Shelley but when Mr. Belding came in, he once again made a blaring noise into Mrs. Simpson's oversensitive hearing aids and caused her to suffer in absolute pain and misery. Fed up with her hearing aids, Mrs. Simpson removed them and threw them in the trash, preferring not to hear anything.[3]

Mrs. Simpson once again didn't hear her students wish her a good morning and scolded them for their rudeness. Screech asked to leave early because of his dentist's appointment and Mrs. Simpson thought he was just saying that his hair was curly and concurred. She had Zack and Kelly go up and recite the Elizabeth Barnett Browning poem, "How Do I Love Thee? (Sonnet 43)". This was insanely awkward for Zack and Kelly, since they were going through some romantic problems in their relationship but Mrs. Simpson didn't know this and just encouraged them to get really into character and draw out their loving dialogue. Mrs. Simpson saw Screech crying and assumed he was moved by the love story, having no knowledge of how he was hurting over the faults in Zack and Kelly's relationship.[4]
