TVLINE | Where were you in the production process when you found out that this was going to be your last season?
We’d already started breaking the last episodes, so it was relatively late for the writers. We were probably somewhere in the middle of the season, shooting wise, but we certainly had to adjust.
TVLINE | How did that news change the characters’ trajectory?
It changed a bunch of things. The first call I received was that they didn’t know what was going to happen, so they asked me to write it as if it was going to be the series finale… but to make sure I was able to change it if it’s not. So we basically broke the last episode in two different ways, one if it was a season finale and one if it was a series finale. Different people were on the disappearing plane at different times, depending on which way we went. So we definitely had to adjust.
I was prepared for the worst ending since in the dark ending…that was mind blowingly satisfying. Classic happy ending without trying to be “edgy” like shows do now. Fallon will be missed.
Yes same here. The in the dark finale was so bad. The dynasty one was definitely the best it could be.
Great finale. Though for a second there I thought there might be a “massacre” at the wedding. Great beats played & everyone got a moment. Thanks & can’t wait for a reunion movie (hint hint)
I loved the series finale. I was so glad Steven came back. I wish Adam could have been killed off!
I’m going to miss this crazy, fun show! Looking forward to see what Liz Gillies does next. She’s awesome!
It really was a great send-off. It was maybe a bit too fast-paced, but other than that I liked all the story decisions and of course getting Steven back was a true gift to those of us who stuck with the show through thick and thin.
I think I would have lost it if they had somehow worked the other two Cristals into the show somehow. THAT would have been amazing.
Way better than what I was expecting.
That worked really well as an ending, I was so afraid they would just end on a big cliffhanger but they clearly put a lot of effort into making something with closure that was satisfying.
I was kind of expecting Adam to come back and blow up the wedding to get his revenge as the finale. But I’m glad they decided to give people happy endings instead. The one thing I noticed is when Adam told Stephen he wasn’t a “real Carrington”, I was thinking how would Stephen know this? He missed when that was revealed and probably still think Blake is his bio father. The other thing was that Adam was a fake Carrington as well. He switched out the DNA tests that would have proved him to be an imposter, who assumed the real Adam’s identity. IIRC, that’s why he pushed Alexis into the fire to keep her from finding out. I like Kirby and I grew to like Amanda, but together they had zero chemistry. If they has used the pace of the finale the last two seasons, we may not have been the end. It was fun while it lasted.
Steven knew Anders was his father that was part of the reason why he left to go rediscover himself unfortunately that’s where he meted Adam who pretend to be an British guy name George who made Steven think he cheated on Sam and was going crazy
I think you’re confused. There was another impostor who claimed to be Adam named Hank. That was the fake DNA test. When the real Adam came to town, he pushed Alexis into the fire for hiring the fake Adam/Hank.
Will miss this show . Hope Fallon moves to something great.
I hated that Dynasty has come to an end. I loved the show, and will miss the characters. Why do they get rid of all the good shows and leave the junk?
I was a fan of the original series and watched the reboot from the beginning. I’m honestly surprised it lasted this long. If it weren’t on the CW, it would have been cancelled years ago. It really wasn’t that good a show. It couldn’t decide if it wanted to be comedy or drama. As a comedy it wasn’t funny. As a drama, it was weak. Elizabeth was good as Fallon, but some of the caste (while attractive), couldn’t act and their characters were boring. The ending wrapped everything up so I guess that’s good.
Exactly. Why cancel Dynasty and leave some other shows on the CW? I will NEVER watch anything on the CW. AGAIN.
Well, the CW is undergoing a change in ownership now which coincides with the ending of a syndication deal they had with Netflix (which is what kept several low rated shows like Dynasty on the air)and that led to a veritable bloodbath of cancellations this past summer. This article explains it here:

I was pleasantly surprised at how good the series finale was. I wasn’t sure if they were going to actually give the fans a proper send off or not, I’m glad they did. I will miss Fallon the most. I’m grateful that they were able to give us a proper ending. I absolutely loved that they brought Steven back and that it didn’t really leave anything open.
I’m glad that Steven got to come back but the show still did him dirty.
Steven should have killed Adam. That would be more satisfying than just letting him go. Adam deserved death. He was one of the most despicable tv characters ever.
To be fair if they didn’t introduce another sibling they would have had plenty of room for an OG Carrington sibling to return….love Amanda but they killed off Anders and immediately added a new character yet they couldn’t possibly have Steven back?? I call BS
But anyway.. James is in a new Australian show with Katherine Langford. Definitely recommend that one
I agree. Steven was sorely missing and Amanda didn’t add much to the show. Yeah she had some battles with Adam but her romance with Kirby was lackluster. For some reason though, the writers had no interest in Steven. They only brought him back for the finale, but if the show continued, they wouldn’t have brought him back
I think Blake should have gone down too. He was responsible for just as many evil things as Adam if not more, he just didn’t get his own hands as dirty. And Fallon taking his place as the head of the dynasty in the wake of his comeuppance would have been a perfect bookend with the pilot. Other than that I thought this was pretty great.
Love the finale but so disappointed I feel the cast could have said something to the fans I mean we spent five almost six years with them
I knee last week it was Stephen. However, I assume he had plastic surgery. I squealed when he ripped his mask off ala the old Mission Impossible show… loved it!
Do more seasons and keep
Fallon Sam Blake Liam culhane Jeff
I miss her every time there’s a break in between seasons
You should not have canceled it. Loved this show
Great series finale but I wish it was continuing. I hate to see it go.
Adam became the character you love to hate (move over, Alexis). But they overdid it. In the OG series, Adam’s doomed love relationship with Kirby softened that character. In this revival, Adam became so despicable & beyond redemption. Still, the actor had so much fun with it. Along with the actress who portrayed Kirby, he was the breakout star for me in this show.
The series finale was corny as F…..
They should have made it 2 hours long
and less ridiculous!
I watched and loved this version of Dynasty since it started, but to me this final season was awful.
I was behind 5 episodes and literally skipped over most of it to get to the finale. I had read Steven comes back and pretty much just watched that part of the finale and I don’t feel like I missed anything honestly.
Side note…Steven was gone so long that when he pulled the mask off i didn’t recognize him…lol…
They should have brought him back a long time ago. A big missed opportunity IMO.
lastly. am I the only one who was hoping Sammy Jo and Michael would fall in love? Maybe it’s just me but I really wanted that to happen.
Sorry not sorry but I will not miss Dynasty.
Any chance it could be picked up by a savior network (looking at you, Netflix)? I know it’s. An expensive show to produce, but it is very popular in parts of Europe, and we know that Netflix is into expanding the network’s global reach.
SAVE FALLON!
Very cancelled.
To think, I only watched this because of Victorious, but I stayed for the whole thing! Great ending, better than Legacies…maybe they should have ended the show on a cliffhanger like that classic Dynasty ending where terrorists shoot up the wedding? LOL
