Feeling Great :) 😊.... Jaisica Lapsiwala and I started Soho Media Club 5 years ago from a small meetup in Soho. - last week we hosted a 3rd Edition of BeYou Festival By Soho Media Club - lots of new connections-- lots of great conversations and fantastic vibe. So fantastic we could make something for others - Listening to amazing stories and helps to make new connections, but also inspires people to make a change. Celebrate content creation of any kind with people who really care about the craft of storytelling, by inspiring them to make things happen. So great to see everyone! Really big THANK YOU for the Amazing Speakers, great Sponsors, Media Partners, Industry Friends and contributors, but also volunteers and the Soho Media Club team. Soho media club is a forum to speak out, have fun and get actions on important leadership subjects. By staying informed about these trends and disruptors, media professionals can better navigate the complexities of the industry and leverage new opportunities for growth and innovation. Be Disruptor - gain your soft skills make your research talk with others and find new opportunity - as this is coming your way - Streaming Services Evolution -- Content Strategy Shifts -- Advertising and Economic Adjustments -- Bundling and Strategic Partnerships -- The Unchanging Value of Sports -- Generative AI in Media Production and more Conclusion for me is that: The media industry is at a crossroads, with traditional models being challenged by new technologies and changing consumer behaviours. Streamers are adapting by modifying content strategies, exploring advertising, and forming strategic partnerships. While generative AI presents exciting possibilities, the industry continues to rely heavily on human creativity and expertise hovewer remember that -- "AI is not going to take your job away, but the person next to you using AI, may." Also during festival other discussions delved into the macro and micro trends impacting roles in media, presented by Claire Tavernier, Senior Media Advisor and Chair, UK Film & TV Charity. Disability representation, LGBTQ+ rights and the importance of representation at all levels of production and how to keep the momentum going were also brought to the floor. Additionally panels discussed what is next for AI for creative technologists. Open conversations. Deep insights. Meaningful connections. That is exactly what the Soho Media Club #BeYouFestival delivered in abundance. A great event held at the epic Ministry of Sound main venue in London. Highlights included the finance talk with the unstoppable forces of Tolu Stedford and Samuel Ampah BA, MAAT, ACCA as well as the ’A.I. Vs Creativity’ talk with Jadey Duffield and Raoul Lumb. Important as it was entertaining, the BeYou Festival is now a major part of my insight reset policy for the year. #film #movies #ai #tv #insights #community #inclusion #creativity

I am at the BE YOU Festival organized by Soho Media Club today! Really excited to be back at this special event and having honest and great conversations about the status of Diversity, Inclusion, Training and Development within our media industry! If you’re around let me know, would be lovely to have a chat! Here is something to think about today: “Diversity doesn’t necessarily mean Inclusion - so what can we do better?”

An inspiring day at the Ministry of Sound for Soho Media Club ‘s annual #BEYOU Festival. With a range of lively panels, debates, conversations and poetry readings; the day saw an array of major DEI topics and issues that pervade the TV, broadcast and film industries - and that I personally hold close to my heart. Personal highlights: 💡 Opening panel ‘Strategies and Schemes Unwrapped’, where the discussion highlighted that although stats and data are useful, there is always a wider story. 💡 ‘The Futuremakers: Giving a Voice to a New Generation’ panel: Recognising ways that traditional TV can take advantage of content creators from younger generations. 💡 The Last Leg’s Alex Brooker sharing some motivational insights on disabled representation in television. 💡 Hearing the experiences of the amazing Professor Jason Arday - the youngest black professor to ever be hired by Cambridge University. Having been diagnosed with autism aged 3, learning to speak at 11 and to read at 18, his story was both moving and fascinating. 💡Muki Kulhan’s iconic and unwavering energy throughout! 😁 Congrats to the team at Soho Media Club and look out for a full write up in FEED’s autumn issue! 💫 #DEI #diversity #equity #inclusion #media #broadcast #tv #television

I harness the power of human-centred storytelling to create change... Creative Lead @ Have You Thought About | Journalist (The Guardian, BBC, The Washington Post) | I write, speak, consult & facilitate | UK Young Academy

Still buzzing after breaking through my comfort zone and sharing one of my spoken word pieces about not belonging on stage at the amazing Be You Festival on the Ministry of Sound main stage. I have never been cool so it was my first visit to the super club! But it was a surreal experience to be up there sharing such intimate words and seeing them resonate with the audience. But the whole Be You Festival was expertly curated by Jaisica Lapsiwala and Tomasz Witkowski of the fab Soho Media Club Listening to conversations about diversity, inclusion, strategy, finance, authenticity and more and getting practical tips from speakers including Cimran Shah, Muki Kulhan, Marcus Ryder, Jasmine Dotiwala, Marcia Williams, David Carrigan, Kalpna Patel-Knight, Annika Allen (She/Her) Tolu Stedford and so many others. I was in awe to meet Prof Jason Arday too and took so much away from his talk about will and purpose.

It was an honour to host a panel yesterday on LGBTQ+ representation in TV as part of Soho Media Club / Be You Festival. We covered a range of topics such as welfare, intersectionality, queer joy, and how much more we still need to do when it comes to inclusivity and representation. Huge thanks to my esteemed panel: Aoife Smyth (First Dates on-screen talent), Kitty Scott Claus (RuPaul’s Drag Race contestant), Cara Bruce (Producer, I Kissed A Girl), and Ryan Lanji (creator, host, polymath). And of course a big shout out to Jaisica Lapsiwala and Tomasz Witkowski for inviting us and putting together not just this vital session but an incredible day of panels. See you again next year!

Team BC has an amazing time as Soho Media Club partners at their Be You Festival yesterday! A jam-packed day consisted of several panels with advocates for diversity, equity and inclusion offering their insight on the film and TV world. Leading industry figures, such as Munya Chawawa, Alex Brooker, April Jackson and Col Goudie, also took to the stage to inform and inspire. A lively DJ set rounded off another incredible edition of the festival - we’re already looking forward to next year! 📸: Ian Olsson
