Wishing Sporting Clube de Portugal and Francisco Tavares the best of luck tonight as they begin the defence of their Liga Portugal title this evening. Ruben Amorim’s side have won two of the last four Portuguese championships, putting a specific emphasis on sports science to give his team an edge. A brilliant club with super people 💚

Even at the elite clubs, there are elements of physical conditioning that are just really simple/uncomplicated. Here’s a repeat sprint drill from Arsenal training. Nothing elaborate. Sprint from the edge of the 18-yard box to the half way line and back. The idea here is that coaches will be aiming to get high speed metres (>19.8 km/h) into the players’ legs. So pace at around 70-80% of max velocity. Coaches can monitor the players’ speeds via our Sonra Live iPad or on the Sonra Watch app, understanding in real-time what the players are doing from a speed/volume/intensity perspective.

"The ability to add thresholds on both Sonra Live and Sonra Watch for individuals allows us to monitor players’ performance and tailor training programmes to their specific needs without losing time downloading data post-training session. For example, if a player has more high-speed metres to cover in a session to make sure they are ready for matchday, coaches can adjust their training there and then to focus on eliciting the required amount of HSR metres. Likewise, if a player has reached a certain threshold, the staff will receive a haptic notification and can make decisions accordingly, managing player welfare. It has massively helped us build trust between both coach and players." Germany's Men's Hockey team take on India in the Olympic semi-finals this evening. We spoke to them pre-tournament about how they use our technology to optimal effect. #Hockey #Paris2024 #Olympics

Can we better contextualise the physical demands of sport to improve how we train athletes to prepare for these moments? *Recovery runs (30-40%) and Support Play (10-15%) are the top 2 movements that account for high intensity running distance during peak match-play periods (1min-5min) in the Premier League. These were the 8 fastest max speed runs last season: - 4 recovery runs - 4 support plays *Data taken from Dr Paul Bradley’s recent book, The Premier League Way: Contextualising The Demands Of The World’s Most Intense League

One of the intricacies of an elite sport science practitioner is having players arrive late into camp, and having to get them up to speed quickly - sometimes away from the main group. Below is Arsenal’s lead S&C Sam Wilson working with new signing Ricardo Calafiori, using our Sonra Watch app. The watch connects via Bluetooth to Calafiori’s GPS unit and Sam can then monitor everything the player is doing live, tracking up to 30 metrics, setting individual thresholds for the player so his load can be managed accordingly. This allows practitioners to work closely with players 1-2-1 or in small groups, with speed, efficiency, and reliability - all from their wrist. Get in touch if you want to find out more.

Loved being part of the Professional Footballers' Association (PFA) pre-season campaign this year. 30 out-of-contract pro footballers were put through their paces by coaches from P3RFORM in the build-up to the 2024-25 season, using our technology to monitor the players throughout. The goal is simple: to provide players with the facilities and assistance they need to maintain their physical and mental sharpness in the off-season in view of earning a new deal at a new club. 2025 will be bigger and even better, no doubt.

Pre-season is a period of the sporting year that’s filled with fitness tests. New Zealand All Black star Beauden Barrett’s advice on how to run a fast time in a *Bronco is worth a little listen. 4mins 12 is his own personal record. *The Bronco is a 20m/40m/60m shuttle run. 5 laps. 1200m in total. 🔗 https://rb.gy/snpn3g
