HOW TO PITCH TO US

Before you pitch, please make sure that you’ve read the publication. That’s the best way to ensure that you’re not pitching a talent, a story or an idea that is not aligned with our vision and aesthetics or a story that is recently published. Recent means the last year.

Make yourself familiar with the publication. Familiarize yourself with the kind of contents that we publish.

For instance, A BOOK OF publishes exclusive editorial type interviews and features. We feature established, major and emerging talents with a strong hook in the current zeitgeist of pop culture.

Your pitch needs to be clear, concise and not misleading.

What’s the story of your talent? What makes their story tick? Why should we feature their story?  Why do you think it’s a good fit for the publication?

Give us an email headline with a clear, concise thesis statement about your pitch.

If you don’t hear back from us within a week, it’s definitely okay to follow-up. There’s a possibility that our editors won’t respond at all. As much as we try to accommodate all the pitches, it’s difficult to keep up with the volume. Our team is also busy producing the shoots, being on-set, and writing articles.

If an editor rejects your pitch, it’s totally okay to ask why and see how we could work something out in the future.

There are several factors why we decline a pitch. Here are some:

-Our production bandwidth is maxed out

-Our budget is low / depleted

-We’ve already featured the artist not too long ago

-The story is very similar to what we already have

-The story / the pitch is not strong enough

-The talent’s engagement on social is very low

-It’s just not a good fit

Accepting pitches is never about personal preference. We check our calendars to see if we have enough bandwidth to produce the shoots and the stories and see the numbers and analytics on similar features. That’s how we gauge if the pitch could be a good fit for us or not.

WHAT IF YOU DON’T HEAR FROM US?

If you don’t hear from us in 4 weeks or so, then we’re most likely to pass on the pitch. Again, it’s okay to follow-up but if you don’t hear from us in a while, it’s most likely a pass. We most likely don’t have enough bandwidth to accommodate your pitch.

-To be considered, see criteria below:

-If pitching talents from TV/FILM: talents must have a strong story / narrative of their own on top of the story / arc of the characters they are playing.

-The talent must be part of the core, main cast of the show, and must have a strong character arc. The character must be important enough to drive the plot of the story.

-If pitching talents for a TV SHOW / FILM, we would need to have the core cast featured and interviewed. Shooting original art is required, but for shows with a big cast, we could figure out a way to create art that could be used within the issue.

-If pitching talents for Music / Art, the talent must be relevant in terms of press cycle, must have a new song/EP/album/ to release, show to promote, etc

-Accompanying interview video / fashion shoot / behind the scenes video may be included

-Distributed globally via Print-on-Demand

-Online feature

-The Collectors Print issues are more flexible in terms of timing and could time the release at the most strategic moment during the talent’s press cycle.

-Production time: 3-4 weeks after the shoot and interview is done
