Dunes Sagebrush Lizard

American Conservation Foundation (ACF) is a non-profit organization that currently holds an Endangered Species Act (ESA) prelisting permit for the Dunes Sagebrush Lizard (DSL). 

This prelisting permit was issued to ACF by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS) for the Texas Conservation Plan (TCP). The TCP is a Candidate Conservation Agreement with Assurances (CCAA) that allows for upstream, midstream, and private landowners/operators to obtain regulatory assurances in exchange for managing their land to minimize impacts to DSL.

Enrollment in the TCP closed with the final listing effective date of the DSL, 06/20/2024.

Community Wildfire Protection Plan (CWPP)

ACF developed a CWPP on behalf of Coryell County, TX

ACF developed the Coryell County, Texas CWPP in coordination with the County and other stakeholders. This plan was created to reduce the risk of wildfire. What is a CWPP? 

A CWPP is a comprehensive plan used to address issues such as wildfire response, mitigation, community preparedness, and structure protection. The Plan aims to enhance Coryell County's resilience against wildfires and ensure the safety of homes, families, and natural resources. The Plan is a collaborative effort between the Texas Forest Service, local fire departments and citizens, as well as state and federal agencies.

The purpose of American Conservation Foundation (ACF) is to contribute to the conservation of native ecosystems in a manner that incentivizes participation by private landowners and promotes economic development. ACF understands the importance of balancing these interests. Our mission is to investigate, implement, and promote conservation strategies that are science-based, responsible, grounded in common sense, and durable for the benefit of species and habitat.
