Alzheimer's Awareness

More than 6 million Americans live with Alzheimer’s, but fewer than half have received an official diagnosis. Close family members know their loved ones best and are typically the first to notice memory issues or cognitive problems but they’re often hesitant to initiate a conversation—even when they know something is wrong – or assume early signs of Alzheimer’s are typical aspects of aging.

Talking about the changes you are noticing in your loved one is hard, but an early diagnosis can have significant benefits, including eliminating uncertainty, qualifying for new and emerging treatments, and allowing participation in care decisions.

With assets available in English and Spanish, our work encourages the public to recognize the early warning signs of Alzheimer’s and other dementias in their loved ones – whether it’s a parent, in-law, spouse, sibling or other family member. They are encouraged to visit the Alzheimer’s Association’s website (available in English and Spanish) to access helpful tools and resources, including information on the disease, benefits of an early diagnosis, conversation guides on how to speak with both loved ones and doctors, and more.
