Actress and Broadway star Kristin Chenoweth is known for her big smile (and hair and personality) so it makes perfect sense that she's teaming up with Listerine. "Brushing your teeth only cleans 25 percent of your mouth. I heard that stat and thought, 'wow, I have to get busy!'" says Chenoweth, who's upped her mouthwash usage since narrating the brand's Your Mouth Has Something to Say video. Every time the short is viewed, Listerine will donate $1 to the National Children's Oral Health Foundation, up to $5,000. This morning, I chatted with Chenoweth for Allure's Beauty Diary series, and for someone with a Tony and Emmy under her belt, she's surprisingly low maintenance.
She relies on dry shampoo."I wash my hair every other day, or sometimes every three days," says Chenoweth, who uses Klorane Gentle Dry Shampoo with Oat Milk on the off days. In the shower, Chenoweth mixes up her products: "I have eczema, so I use DHS shampoo for that, but I also use Kérastase [Volumactive] shampoo and conditioner," she says. "A hairstylist told me to start using it because I have very fine, thin hair."
She doesn't fuss with her hair. "You should see me when I'm not working! My hair just goes up into a ponytail," says Chenoweth. But she does swear by one old-school, time-saving styling trick: "l braid my [wet] hair at night, and sleep with it. When I wake up, it looks really good and even healthier," says Chenoweth, adding that she finishes off her natural waves by teasing the crown.
She indulges before bed—kind of. "I use La Mer's lightweight moisturizer [The Moisturizing Lotion] at night," she says. "But for my eyes, I use Bio-Oil, which you can get at Duane Reade. I also put a little bit around my mouth, where wrinkles are starting to show."
She uses men's products. "I got [Molton Brown Ultra Light Bai Ji Hydrator] in a gift bag and thought, this is good. Then I found out it was for men. But I went out and bought 15 bottles. I've even got my sister-in-law addicted," says Chenoweth. "It's really lightweight and I love the smell. It's tropical but faint."
She's mastered glowy skin. "I was never into primers, but I've become obsessed with Smashbox's primer. It makes my skin feel soft and look younger—and I'm not even being paid by them," she says, adding that she switches between Smashbox Photo Finish Foundation Primer and Color Correcting Primer in Balance. "I use the clear one under makeup, and the tinted purple one on days when I'm just running around, and it gives me that glow!"
She's a lip balm girl. "Believe it or not, I wear a Nivea A Kiss Of Shimmer Radiant Lip Care SPF 10 every day," says Chenoweth. "My routine is very, very simple—I think less is more. I curl my lashes, wear mascara—I like M.A.C.—put on primer, a little bit of Smashbox bronzer, and then my Nivea."
