Tricky install… But once in *correctly*, a cheap alternative to ductless.
Latest update:All worked to end of cooling season 2021. Amazon finally had a sale and, I got another for the other bedroom to replace the old Kenmore. I will probably move the old Midea to the guest room and put this newer one in the master bedroom. Assuming, newer is better… But, since it is the middle of Winter, not doing that right away. Also, it was not supposed to be delivered until 2022. I hate these unwanted EARLY deliveries. I need this on my holiday charge card like I need a blizzard.----2021 update:I was able to link my Midea window AC with the Skill and therefore, to Alexa. After some time of non function.A few months ago, Midea F-up big time and, many lost Alexa for the AC. In middle of US July heat and humidity! Their Skill rating went to the pits. 2 stars. I lowered mine to 1 star. But, now it is working. I will give it a month and, raise it back to 4 stars. When it works, it works good. But, if it is not working, any app will go back to 1 star.To get Alexa Skill back, I first had to make a new Midea account password. This was one element that was broken that they seemed to fix. The other was the back end server just stopped working. Once I did that password update, I reloaded the Skill via the Alexa app. However, as predicted, the Skill seemed unable to find the AC unit. I ignored it and, sure enough, it had found it. (Why this happens so much across all kinds of devices and apps — Alexa, Apple, dozens of smart home devices, accounts, and other apps — and why the developers do not catch it, remains a befuddlement. I am now trained to just try it one more time then, quit and 9 times out of 10, it did find the device and all is fine.)So now I can say ”Alexa, turn Window AC to 72° F” and it does. Which it did for a whole year just fine, until Midea broke it.----Part 3:Despite the problematic install issues and design flaws I outline below, I like the unit. I have had it for over a year. My worries now is, just how long it will last! My other bedroom AC is a 12 year old Kenmore Energy Star and still works. But, I am so into the quite of this Midea unit, I want to replace it! However:You cannot find this Midea anywhere for a decent price. I began long before cooling season even began and, the price was nuts. When I check a week or so ago, the price was OK but, sold out. Clearly Midea is onto something here and needs to invest in more production and on fixing the various issues all the owners have discussed here!- Oh, one other small thing: I wish it had a fresh air port. The fresh air ports seem to no longer be provided on any brand but are handy when the humidity is low inside (due to the AC) but temp is high. If I open the small port, it sucks in just enough outside humid air into the blower into the room to bring it up a few percentages. Making the air cooler and not so dry. A feature useful in humid summer climates. Just a piece of plastic… maybe a small tube needed to go inside the connecting portion to the outside, for the U design. Diameter of a port is about that of a AA battery or two with an adjustable baffle to control how much outside air gets into the blower stream. Works great. I notice the change immediately. It is, essentially, adding in a little moisture to the AC air.Part 2:- The attached images show a few problems with installation. The large foam piece for the gap has a small ledge on it (rim?) which, the instructions are not fully clear on. But, as far as I can tell from the poor illustrations, it sits up and on the inside. Presumably to be an inside seal on the inside edge of the bottom of the window. The problem on my windows is that, it is just not working. The window comes to a stop at the right point but cannot get past that foam ledge. I added a piece to the bottom to bring it up in height and I think the window is stoping on the bottom of the “U” of the unit. No way to be sure though.- This leads me to the middle of the U in the unit. There are gaps in there. Foam is needed. But there is not dense and flat foam included. I'd be worried the remainder of the window gap foam, which is soft and goes on the inside, would absorb water and cause all kinds of issues. They need to include a higher density foam strip that can be placed on the bottom of the U so the window comes down on that to seal it off. No photo of his problem. No way to get a camera in there! There is also a small gap between the edge of the foam and the side of the U. I jammed some black foam in there (hard to see but in one of the photos closer in). This needs to be improved.- Another glaring gap, perfect for invasive stink bugs to get in or mosquitos, is under the unit. This too could be solved with a proper custom foam insert to slide into all the holes by the two rails and thinner gaps here and there. In the image, it shows that I did stuff some foam in but, totally inadequate! I honestly do not know how to fill this in. No, spray foam is not an option plus costly and hard to use for most home owners. The wood in the photos is to provide a better platform for the unit to sit on, otherwise it would be resting on a thin piece of vinyl window. It does not interfere with or cause any problems as it sits on the window sill on the inside of the home. The app has some UI and UX problems.- There is an option “Boost”. I have no idea what this does!- There is an LED button. This turns the LED and on off but does not provide visual feedback that the light is on or off! (I often run this unit not in the room to cool it down and, the LED will just attracts bugs so, in any mode, I like to turn it off. Remote LED on or off feedback is needed!)Cooling so far: Is quite fine!-------Part 1I need to run it for a while and then, give the full picture.Install IS NOT EASY. I have a design degree and even I was befuddled by the drawings in the manual. Some had obvious mistakes or were so oddly shown, they were of little help. The hardware for the install seems well made but, again, lack of clarity and bad instructions really make it a challenge.Despite taking a week to figure it out before I went past the install of the support bracket, some things are just not well thought out in the engineering for this. The unit DOES NOT center on the window. So if you install the support centered, the unit will be off center. I had to remove it, figure this out (them instructions mention this but, just one buried line, not a call out), and adjust the bracket. Even with that adjustment, the bracket was never going to let the unit seem centered in the window. The system of adjustment does not allow it.Once in and set, the next challenge is the foam. I am a designer so I am going to cut that foam perfectly! NOPE! forget it. The stuff is awful to cut clean. Even with a stainless steel ruler and a new blade, it is not a clean cut. When you slide the foam in, surprise, you need to add some layers to make it work. They thankfully give you those. But then, the WORST part was that when I had to pull the foam out to add to it, the sliding anti tilt bars JAMMED! Ugh. Now it is a second time I have to pull the whole unit out! The bars can jam into each other and totally lock in place. The fix is to take both in your hand and as though it is a steering wheel, turn them to the right. This allows the jam to unjam and they slide fine after. After getting all that fixed and foam cut right and installing. I found that the automatic horizontal louver moving is pretty anemic. Admittedly, I thought it was vertical too. So that whole thing is just a joke. I keep it off but, then the top flap drops down so much, it pretty much keeps the air only shooting out to chest height. Uhh, I want it to go up more to say, face height. The app is OK. It at first would not set up on my network (all Apple Airports) which is not typical of most devices. Usually they just go on and done. But oddly, when I quit the app to try again, it came up ON the network. So the network set up is fine but the app is buggy and does not show it is set up unless you quit it and open again.I have it in an attic like second floor in a Cap Cod home for a bedroom. Just under half the house plan. Needless to say, the BTUs needed for the second floor are about 16,000. So another 8000 unit in the other half of the second floor (another bedroom) do the job. Sadly, a small bath room remains a furnace. Why don't they make a 2000 BTU for small bathrooms? I'd buy it! Better yet, make it a heat pump too. The bathroom is an icebox in winter. It seems to handle average summer temps and humidity well in the Mid-atlantic USA OK so far (one day). We have a 90+ day soon and July is nuts here so, after July is over, I will have a verdict.More to come in update later!

Between the Mill 2 blocks away and the main road right outside my door I live with a constant inflow of dust. Because of this and because I live in a desperately humid area of the country, I tend to buy new window units every year. Two of them are needed as I keep a cool climate in my room for myself and my spouse and the living room for my spoiled pups. This year, my room unit went out right as a heat dome that could only have originated in hell itself settled over my neck of the woods. Between the climate and menopause I was trying to figure out how to squeeze myself into the deepfreeze just to get a decent night of sleep. When local stores were jacking up prices as quick as their fingers could punch in the numbers to gouge the sweltering public, I turned to Amazon in hopes of finding something that wouldn't send me into debt for the rest of my natural life. While hotflashes and traffic noise take their toll on my sleep, I hoped to find an affordable unit that maybe wouldn't rumble my window and add to the cacophony I already deal with on a nightly basis. This particular unit, built with the condenser outside looked a bit odd but was supposed to be quiet as well as cooling. Ever the optimist, I took a chance and ordered it. After all, it would at least be cool, right? Two days later it was delivered to my door and my husband and I set out to install it with all the energy of 2 old people who just arrived home after a day working in 106° heat. It came with thorough instructions and a video link to actually show how to install it correctly. All necessary part, plus extras just in case you fumble fingered a screw into the land of lost socks were included. And extra insulating material! Any kind of tape, brick or strips you'd need for installation, all included. It took us about 45 minutes and it was done. Not just done, though, it was done correctly! And my window can still be used, y'know, if I were actually social and wanted to talk to the neighbor. It was so quiet I couldn't even tell it was on! Except for the fact that my room quickly cooled from blast furnace to habitable environment. I was more impressed than I've been with any product I can ever remember buying! I'm old, though, so my memory isn't what it was. I waited to make sure it wasn't a fluke to make a review because I have trust issues. But then, my friends, the worst happened. The livingroom unit went out. Same heat dome still baking our neck of the woods, no extra cash to buy another unit because we just replaced the one in the room. So, being the daughter of an inventive father, I decided to poor person our problem into a solution. I cut a hole in the wall between the bedroom and living room, and put a fan in front of it. I figured this would be a temporary solution and while my room would no longer be an ice block, both rooms would at least be livable. I.. was wrong. Not only is my room STILL an iceblock, the livingroom stays about 72°!! The dogs are happy, I'm happy and this wonder of a product has made my life so much better. So, buy it! It's quiet, it cools beyond expectation and now the electric bill is lower because it's doing the work of 2 units! It's compact, attractive to look at and the quality is more than I ever expected, but is what we all deserve. I WILL NEVER use any other unit, this little miracle has put all other (and there have been alot) air conditioner to shame.

First time ever installing a window unit, and the location is our master bedroom upstairs. We needed a solution at night since our very large and inefficient central ac cools a 2300 sq. ft. 3 level home here in Florida and we just need the master bedroom to be cool and dark at night. Electric bills can get close to $400/ month down here during the summer, so this seemed to make sense. I used the foam provided as well as a foam float noodle that I sliced to seal the bottom of the window to the part of the unit it closes down on and it works great and is SIMPLE. No expanding foam, or resins/ sealing gunk to make a mess with. I also put insulating material over the entire tall window since they are older and thinner glass, and the curtains hide that since we do not use this window at all. In one photo there is some of foam float on the window sill that is just extra (not used) the black slice above it is the part being used to seal the window.

I am pretty handy but this was wasn't an install I think would be too difficult for most people to do, depending on your application of course, but that is in any case. Just read the manual, YES READ THE MANUAL LOL :) and take your time.

I am pretty critical on products and don't mind spending a little extra for quality, and with that said we are really impressed with this unit. It makes our 300 sqr ft bedroom ice cold at night, (she's happy, I am happy, the dog is happy). In addition, I've been running it in dry mode, eco enabled during the day and where it is positioned it flows air out of the room down the 20' hall and the rooms on the other end read 73 degrees and 62% humidity, which is totally awesome since our offices are in those rooms and we spend a fair amount of time in those areas working, running computers, etc. Our upstairs which totals around 1k sqr ft is now the coolest part of our home. In Florida, during the summer, is very impressive that this small, quiet, (can't hear it running), unit works so well.

You can tell it is made with durable materials, even the remote is made with quality material. The unit connected first time to our wifi and the app on my phone works seamlessly. So far for what it is this product is a great solution to cool parts of a home. Very happy from hot humid Florida!

We have owned many A/C's over the years and this is the best ever! It is easy to install and takes up very little window space. It cools the best, is most quiet and if we ever need another, this will be the one we buy!

5.0 out of 5 stars Outstanding product that is woth the price and effort.

This is a fantastic product for two reasons. It is QUIET, and it is energy efficient.

FIVE STAR PART: The unit installs in classic vertical sash windows, but unlike conventional window units, it separates the compressor, motors, and fans from the controls by allowing the lower sash to divide these elements. Brilliant: efficient moving components outside and cool, dry air inside. The space for the lower sash is also wide enough to permit a window blind to function in the gap. This allows light blocking, which is not something one would have thought important, but is, and it is very slick. The marketing literature talks about being able to operate the lower slider if you want fresh air, which seems silly. There is already a fan setting to bring in fresh air, and it is a fair bit of effort to make sure everything reseals when moving the sash. I think the marketing team went a little too far in this one and the notion detracts attention from the overall design excellence of the product.

It is very thoughtful to include a remote control for those needing one, and the voice access through Wi-Fi provides even more accessibility options. I am fortunate enough to not need these, and the on-board control layout of the unit is excellent! Although it took me a while to get used to a display that only showed the temperature setting and not the room temperature, it turned out that the unit is so good that there is rarely a difference anyway.

THREE STAR PART: You may have a little effort on your part to get the mounting bracket to work, since it is designed for specific sill configurations. A few people must be lucky, and it all works out, but our outer sill was too big. So, when the unit is installed, we put a conveniently sized brick on top of the sill (shown in the picture) and don’t use the rear angled support arms. We also put a thin piece of rubber between the metal of the mounting bracket and brick to reduce possible vibration transmission. (My calculations show it's very safe since the majority of load goes through the wall of the house in compression. Plus, the additional load is quite small. But we leave critical decisions of this nature to lawyers; think of this a shared experience from a questionable source.) Once you get the unit positioning sorted out, the mounting bracket is a dream, and next year's install will be easy-peasy.

I strongly recommend this unit! The price and effort are well worth it but do your homework.

This was surprisingly easy to install and barely takes up any space inside the room. Looks way more modern than other window AC units we've had in the past. Keeps the room cold with fresh air and isnt loud at all, which is great for sleeping! Definitely recommend this.
