Good but build quality is desired
The Energizer Weatheready Folding Lantern is a wonderful concept, but execution is not as great as one would hope. While the device offers 3 great lighting options to choose from, this is probably the only fantastic thing about the device. When I first held the folding lantern in my hands, I was a little turned off with the feel of it: The hard plastic pieces that are not entirely smoothed out, the residual oil that was left behind on the hinges that you need to remove with a paper towel, the buttons that feel cheaply made despite being interesting with its glow-in-the-dark feature. And whether you like it or hate it, the lantern runs on 4 D batteries. Now personally, I would have preferred that the Lantern was rechargeable, but I understand that longevity might be an issue if that were the case. Part of me understands why they chose to make it powered by D batteries, but it's just not a type of battery that most households already have. And the fact that 4 giant batteries only provide less than 1 day of light is honestly disappointing. So would I recommend this lantern? Well considering all the pros and cons that I mentioned in this review, my ultimate answer would be: it depends. If you're the type of person who camps a lot and has a stash of D batteries in the house, then I'd say sure, buy the lantern. But in this modern age of rechargeable everything, you have to pause for a moment and think why you wouldn't add a rechargeable lantern to every other electronic device that you already have.Full disclosure: The Energizer lantern was essentially given to me by HomeTesterClub, who supplied me with a $19.77 amazon Gift Card to purchase the item. I received this light to test as part of Home Tester Club and I have to say, I was very impressed! I've bought other, more expensive lights, and this one is VERY bright and it didn't cost a fortune! I'll have to see how long the batteries last (needs 4 D batteries, not included), but from the initial test the light was very bright, the night light was a nice, subtle glow, and I also like that there is a plug on the back to charge your phone with (charging cord not included)! For the ballpark of $20 and all these features, I would recommend it. I can see how it would be nice for camping (has a carrying handle). I will be using it as an emergency light source, should we ever need it, and I think it's plenty bright for that. I would recommend!
