"Nihil infinitum est". Seneca the Elder's famous quote, nothing is infinite. One can read this as meaning everything in the created order has limits, i.e. all things will end.

One can also read it as: once nothingness is reached nothingness can go on forever. Infinity is a characteristic 'nothing' shares with 'God'. This applies especially within our contemporary milieu. "Clutching at straws" is the endless merry-go-round of material nihilism.

Only God can create out of nothing (ex nihilo). Without God all spirals into entropy. You can't push back on nothingness. Nihilism, "the death of God", gives way to no limits, thus is inevitably totalitarian.

Sobering and keen insight, Mr. Charlton. Somewhat apt to bear in mind on the second day of Christmas, the season that celebrates the incarnation.
