Monogatari Series: Off & Monster Season episode 1 recap
Monogatari: Off & Monster Season episode 1, “OROKAMONOGATARI Tsukihi Undo,” begins with Yotsuki Ononoki inhabiting a human-sized plushie in possession of Tsukihi Araragi. While Araragi is on her way to school, Ononoki enjoys her freedom and eats several cans of ice cream in Araragi’s absence.
However, Araragi makes an unexpected U-turn and finds her plushie moving. Instead of being scared, she urges the doll to move again. When Ononoki does not respond to the request, Araragi sets her on fire. Thankfully, Ononoki extinguishes the fire before it harms anyone.
Once her secret is out in the open, Ononoki explains her purpose. Araragi insists on fighting the monster that Ononoki was on Earth to challenge. A helpless Ononoki agrees and visits Nadeko, a reserved manga artist and Araragi’s friend.
Nadeko draws a slug monster on paper whose real form Ononoki was supposed to fight along with Araragi. Araragi is severely injured, but Ononoki is aware that she will survive. In the end, however, the monster badly hurts Ononoki, and her senior, Mayoi Hachikuji, arrives to save her.
The following day, Tsukihi Araragi had forgotten about the previous day due to her amnesia. This gave Ononoki a clean slate. However, Ononoki repeated her careless mistake, and Araragi caught her moving into her room despite being a doll.
