What do we know about Emerald Fennell’s Wuthering Heights movie?

No casting information for Fennell’s Wuthering Heights movie has been announced at this time. A release date has not yet been set.

Wuthering Heights is a gothic story about two families, the Earnshaws and the Lintons, living in West Yorkshire. The story largely follows a character named Heathcliff, who wants revenge after he’s denied a romantic relationship with a woman named Cathy.

Wuthering Heights has been adapted many times in the past. Timothy Dalton notably played Heathcliff in a 1970 movie adaptation of the novel, while Ralph Fiennes then portrayed the character in a 1992 film directed by Peter Kosminsky.

Fennell started her career in Hollywood acting in movies such as 2010’s Mr Nice, 2011’s Albert Nobbs, 2012’s Anna Karenina, 2015’s The Danish Girl, and 2015’s Pan. She also recently played Midge in Greta Gerwig’s Barbie movie, released in July 2023.

Following a 2018 short film titled Careful How You Go, Fennell made her feature film debut as a writer and director with 2020’s Promising Young Woman, which starred Carey Mulligan and Bo Burnham. The film won Best Original Screenplay at the 93rd Academy Awards, while it was also nominated for Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actress (Mulligan), and Best Film Editing.

Her second film, Saltburn, was released in the United States in November 2023. It starred Barry Keoghan, Jacob Elordi, Rosamund Pike, and Richard E. Grant.

Fennell also co-wrote the screenplay for John Wick Present: Ballerina, which will be released on June 6, 2025.
