Mubi has revealed The Substance teaser trailer for Coralie Fargeat’s satirical body horror movie starring Demi Moore and Margaret Qualley.
The film won best screenplay at the 2024 Cannes Film Festival and was swiftly acquired by Mubi for theatrical release.
The Substance is about a fading celebrity who decides to use a black-market drug, a cell-replicating substance that temporarily creates a younger, better version of herself.

The Substance teaser trailer sees Demi Moore‘s Fitness TV show presenter delving into a dark world of experimental drugs that could save her career. But the trailer makes it clear there will be some unhinged consequences.
”Demi Moore gives a career-best performance as Elisabeth Sparkle, a former A-lister past her prime and suddenly fired from her fitness TV show by repellent studio head Harvey (Dennis Quaid),” reads the official synopsis. ”She is then drawn to the opportunity presented by a mysterious new drug: The Substance. All it takes is one injection and she is reborn – temporarily – as the gorgeous, twenty-something Sue (Margaret Qualley). The only rule? Time needs to be split: exactly one week in one body, then one week in the other. No exceptions. A perfect balance. What could go wrong?”
The Substance is directed by Coralie Fargeat, who previously helmed the blood-soaked thriller Revenge. Starring alongside Moore and Qualley are Dennis Quaid, Gore Abrams, Hugo Diego Garcia, Olivier Raynal, and Tiffany Hofstetter.
The Substance will be in theaters nationwide on September 20, 2024.
