The actor faces two counts of involuntary manslaughter in the death of Halyna Hutchins.
SANTA FE, N.M. – Alec Baldwin sauntered into a New Mexico courthouse Monday morning ahead of his involuntary manslaughter trial for the accidental shooting of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins.
The "30 Rock" star stepped out of a black Chevrolet Suburban with his entourage. Baldwin arrived in court even though he was excused from appearing at the pretrial hearing at the First Judicial District Court in Santa Fe.
The actor, who was with his defense attorney Alex Spiro, wore a dark-colored suit and tie and black-rimmed glasses. He did not address the crowd of reporters outside.

A gun Baldwin was holding fired on the set of the Western film "Rust" in 2021, killing Hutchins and injuring director Joel Souza. He has pleaded not guilty.
If convicted, he faces up to 18 months in prison. Jury selection is slated to begin Tuesday. Baldwin has insisted he cocked the gun but didn't pull the trigger.
After entering the courthouse, he sat at the defense table flanked by Spiro and defense attorney Luke Nikas and scribbled notes on a yellow legal pad.

The actor was spotted at the luxury Eldorado Hotel and Spa Sunday night huddling with more than a dozen members of his legal team in a large conference room.
It's unclear if he's staying at the hotel, but it does boast a palatial presidential suite.
Judge Mary Marlowe Sommer is hearing arguments on an array of motions Monday that will determine what evidence can be presented at trial.
Baldwin's attorneys want to bar discussion of actor Brandon Lee's accidental shooting death on the movie set of "The Crow" in 1993.

The son of Bruce Lee was struck by a bullet from a prop gun, and the tragic death ushered in strict firearm safety protocols on Hollywood sets.
Prosecutors also want to exclude the conclusions of an OSHA report that found assistant director Dave Halls primarily responsible for the killing of Hutchins. Halls pleaded no contest to negligent use of a firearm and could testify for the state.
Defense attorneys say that OSHA state occupational safety officer Lorenzo Montoya, who interviewed Baldwin after the shooting, shouldn't be allowed to take the stand.

Prosecutors unsuccessfully tried to bar the OSHA report and Montoya from testifying at "Rust" armorer Hannah Gutierrez Reed's involuntary manslaughter trial.
She is serving an 18-month sentence after being convicted of the same charge Baldwin is now facing.
Jurors found her reckless for putting a live round in the gun Baldwin was holding when it fired. Gutierrez Reed is appealing her conviction.
