3.5
Shy is a short novel, more of a novella about a fifteen-year-old teen, Shy, who's angry, misbehaves, causes havoc at school and the community and who eventually ends up in a "last chance school".
There are some stand-out moments and the writing is raw and intense. There's quite a bit of sex and sex talk and dick mentions - which is disconcerting for such a young person; it could explain why I was less sympathetic to Shy's issues, even though I'm aware kids are sexual creatures etc.
I don't know if I missed it, but I never quite got what his issue was, was there even a real issue?

Thanks for putting this book on my radar, Bianca! I'll have to think about this one a bit... :)

Candi, have you read his Lanny or Grief is the Thing Feathers? He's definitely worth checking, his got his own writing style.

No, I haven't read either of those novels. After reading your review, I went to the author page and then realized he had written those as well. I'll definitely give him a try one day - I'm too curious not to! :)

I loved The Grief ... I highly recommend the audiobook.

Terrific review, Bianca! I’ve always meant to read Grief is the Thing with Feathers. Probably should start with that one.
Excellent review Bianca - was 'Shy' the Narrator, the reason I ask is I didn't like a book not so long ago where the young kid was the first person narrator - and it didn't really wash with me - Demon Copperhead
Great review, Bianca! Loved Grief…, so have been curious about this one. I’ll skip it; doesn’t sound like my cuppa!
