If the Islamic Republic were to pass into history with 2017, it would be the greatest gift the Iranian people could possibly receive.
“Protests in Iran cities resume on fourth day, social media footage shows,” Al Arabiya, December 31, 2017:
On fourth day of Iran protests, in the northeastern city of Mashhad, protesters chanted: “Khamenei, have some shame, and leave the country alone!”
In Tehran, according to wire reports, police used water cannon to try to disperse demonstrators gathering in Ferdowsi Square in the center of the capital, citing video footage posted on social media.
Video posted online also showed a clash between protesters and police in the city of Khoramdareh in Zanjan province in the country’s northwest. There were also reports of protests in Sanandaj and Kermanshah cities in western Iran.
A semi-official news agency in Iran reported that police arrested around 200 people during protests in Tehran on Saturday.
The ILNA news agency report on Sunday quoted Ali Asghar Nasserbakht, a security deputy governor of Tehran, offering the figure….
He also said that around 40 leaders were arrested.

DOES ANYONE COMMENTING HERE HAVE A GOOD GUESS AS TO HOW MANY IRANIANS ARE TELLING OUR C.I.A. ABOUT EVENTS ON AN HOUR-BY-HOUR TIMEFRAME ?
eduardo odraude says
Don’t know. But the C.I.A. probably has ways of observing such things fairly directly and immediately.
jewdog says
We need to send the Navy, with aircraft carriers, immediately to Iranian waters to demonstrate our forceful commitment to the protestors. The Mullahs are incredibly fanatical and can only be stopped by force and intimidation.
eduardo odraude says
That’s tricky. A show of military force, if not done at the right moment in the right way, might actually strengthen the regime and weaken the protesters.
gravenimage says
Unfortunately true, Eduardo. Iranians have been so conditioned to hate America that too much support could actually backfire.
Ziba Delavar says
So true. This is something that Iranians must bring about, otherwise whatever government comes to power haters will say that it is an American puppet. I am praying and hoping that this revolution succeeds and they get rid of mad Mullahs. One more thing is this: Islam is like cancer. Every cell must be irradiated and removed. Even if one cell is left behind, it will grow back again. So Iran must get rid of all the mosques, all the shrines and Islam must be declared a prohibited religion. Christianity is the fastest growing religion in Iran, so I am hoping that Iran changes its name to Persia and turns to Christianity. Only Christianity can get rid of Islam in Iran. As ex-Muslim who converted to Christianity this is my hope. I fear that if Iran becomes a country with no religion, then those young people, suffocated by religious dictatorship, resort to every vice which would give rise to the ire of more conservative population and once again Islam rises its ugly head. It is very difficult to know what is going on, because news isn’t forthcoming and I have no one in Iran who can tell me anything about it.

If they stop now, there is going to be bloodshed. The government will clamp down and arrests will be made and thousands will be tortured and put to death. Pres. Rouhani, the liar, is trying to fool people by coming across as supporting people. He is hoping they would stop the protests, but if they stop, it will be the end for them and the end for peace. We should all pray that Iranians do not get fooled by Rouhani or anybody else, that they persevere in their uprising.

“..getting wise as to how their money and wealth is being stolen and squandered on terrorism” – POTUS.
The Mullahs really are thinking they are little Allahs. There has never been a religion in which someone did not assume that he was the personal emissary of his god. However, Islam takes it to a new level; Allah has proclaimed his kingdom to be of this world and all must bow or die. As Iranians heve learned, Islam is just another form of brutal communism in which the state actors and their supporters are the new elite, exercising central control and running the country for their own benefit. Islam is their puppet string.

RCCA says
I’ve been seeing some interesting and inspiring tweets, the funniest was by Imam Tawhidi @Imamofpeace:
“Linda Sarsour, we are prepared to crowd fund travel expenses for you to go and march for women’s rights in Tehran. This is your time to shine. They need your help. @lsarsour”
Older Canadian says
What does this mean? Sorry for perhaps my lack of knowledge but which side is this plea for.
eduardo odraude says
Older Canadian,
RCCA is quoting some imam mocking Linda Sarsour (aka Linda Cockroach — Sarsour happens to mean “cockroach” in Arabic). Linda Sarsour is an American Muslim propagandist of the worst kind, a liar who pretends to be a feminist and claims that Islamic law is in tune with feminism. She’s a sharia supporter who would never support women’s rights where it counts: in the Islamic world (including Iran). She uses American feminism and leftism, as many other Muslims do, as a cover to spread Islam. Just as the Iranian revolutionaries back in the 1970s allied with leftists but then killed the leftists once the revolution was achieved, Sarsour and her friends, if they ever gained real power, would oppress and destroy all the leftists and eliminate freedom.
gravenimage says
Hard to tell if Imam Tawhidi is for women’s rights, but recognizes that Linda Sarsour is not–more likely, he is anything but, and is mocking Linda Sarsour for even taking such a posture–not for her being a trojan horse in the free West.
David says
Check out You Tube videos of Imam Tawhidi (He is in Australia) He does seem to be genuine. Hopefully.

There is no intact Muslim nation that will oppose regime change in Iran. Let’s hope the citizens succeed in getting rid of the entire cadre of Ayatollahs and their underling officers.
eduardo odraude says
Not sure he is hiding “behind” religion. What if the religion in this case is itself a con artist, and the imam is simultaneously deceived and deceiver? That’s self-deception. On the one hand, we know and perpetrate the lie. Yet paradoxically we are also fooled by it. It’s a contradiction, but a reality nonetheless.

The fact of the matter is that finally Islam is coming undone…
If only…..if only the retards on the liberal left… The true chamberlains of our day, stop the pandering of this evil ideology, we could be assured that Islam would be truly exposed in all it’s heinous glory as a death cult, and we could be rid of this menace completely in less than two decades.
Christ said that “… a house divided between itself cannot stand…”
The left’s hatred of Judeo-Christian values are blinding it from recognizing the ultra conservativeness of Islam, which would inevitably be fatally caustic to all liberal values, yet like dumb sheep they follow their peers in vehemently promoting Islam in the west.
Ultimately the real traitors are the liberal leftists, that have broken down our defensive walls, and dragged the Trojan horse within our midst and now are slumbering in a drunken stupor.
Older Canadian says
But apparently they are also demonstrating for the pro side of their government. So it appears there is a division.
From what I have been able to see it is the young people mainly from the universities that want the change whereas the mainstream are supporting the government.
If this is the case the young folks will not win. Not this time, maybe in 20 years or so when they and their kids are mainatream.
eduardo odraude says
Some Iranian hardliners, not just freedom-seekers, have been demonstrating. But which demonstrations are bigger? I’m betting the demos for freedom are bigger. That’s why this would go on for four days. Hardliners would not threaten the hardline Iranian regime by continuing day after day with demos. The persistence of these demos is driven by people seeking the departure of the dictators.

If Hundreds of Thousands of citizens start demonstrating all over Iran, the possibility of overthrowing this demagogue and despicable theocratic regime is very possible especially when they start slaughtering their own people under the watch of Trump and NOT the Muslim Traitor in Chief called OBAMA
The USA cannot and must not interfere except through the UN and the media so as not to give the Mullahs the excuse that the Uprising is USA instigated.
The Mullahs know very well that if and when they are overthrown tens of thousands of them will suffer the same fate that they meted to the followers of the Shah.
This is a case of Suppress or DIE
So far the leftist FAKE media in the USA is NOT reporting the TRUTH as usual

Kepha says
Who are the protesters, and with what will they replace that mad-mullahocracy?
Are they Mujaheddin-e-Qalq, those wonderful freedom fighters who combined Muhammad and Marx, and who boasted in their own circles that they were the first “revolutionary fighters” to break into the “nest of spies” back in 1979? Are they those wonderful Tudeh people, for whom Mossadeq’s being a brave lion over British petroleum interests was proud patriotism, while Mossadeq’s crippled mouse act before Soviet petroleum interests was “a matter of internationalist solidarity”?
We saw how well a proactive US foreign policy in the Islamic world worked during the Bush II and O years. Those student demonstrators whom the O supposedly “betrayed” seemed to be nothing but partisans of some other band of clerical fanatics. It also seems that is America is liked in the region in direct proportion to its non-involvement in a given country. Maybe Trump would be best advised to make a few pious noises about finding workable compromises, the need for the Iranian political system to make room for other voices, and leave it at that.
If the mad mullahs fall, and whoever takes their place wants to normalize with us, all well and good. But don’t bet the farm that we’re going to see a new Iranian regime that is friendly.
gravenimage says
I’m afraid these are all salient questions, Kepha. Hard to believe anyone could be worse than the Mullahs, though, even if whatever replaces them is less than ideal.
Of course, it is not at all clear that things are going to go so far, in any case.
Kepha says
I am no fan of the mad mullahs; but I’m old enough to remember the Viet Nam War era and the 1979 Iranian Revolution. While I applaud the policy of the Reagan and Bush I administrations in their rollback of Communism, I still tend to think that, since the end of the Cold War, the USA should have a less proactive foreign policy and should be very careful about identifying its core interests before intervening in someone else’s conflicts.
gravenimage says
Kepha, I in no way think that Reagan or Bush were responsible for Islamic revolution in Iran.
Kepha says
PS to gravenimage at 10:47. I did not wish to imply that either Reagan or Bush were responsible for the Iranian Revolution, It happened in 1979, during Carter’s tenure. I am willing to concede that it was Iranians who made their own revolution; and I admit a grudging respect for Khomeini and cohorts for their end-run around the odds-on-favorites in the Tudeh (although I think that Khomeini was a reprehensible creep).
Matthieu Baudin says
If the regime falls the finest hour for those who fought under its banner will be their momentous struggle to crush ISIS in Syria in concert with Russian and Syrian Government Forces. Nothing will diminish the significance of sacrifice made in this struggle. But the time has come for change, for the Iranian young to take control of their own future and to fashion it to their own needs. The last directives from the elderly men still in power should be to encourage restraint by the security forces and police and to find an interim figure of public standing through which to negotiate with the protesting masses.
gravenimage says
Of course, Matthieu, the only reason the Mullahs oppose ISIS is because they are Sunni rivals–not because authorities in Iran actually opposes any of their savagery.
Chand says
Completely wrong, gravenimage.
The Shias, whether fundamentalists or not, were one of the main victims of ISIS. They are not rivals. As Matthieu Baudin says htey were fundamental in resisting and crushing ISIS on the ground. And Sunni Jihadis have shown themselves to be more brutal and evil than the Shias.
I do not, however, support any kind of theocracy anywhere and wish for democracy and freedom in all forms in Iran. Hope there is a peaceful transition in Iran towards more freedom and release from religion.
Chand says
sorry, typo, I meant: “…………they were fundamental….”
gravenimage says
How is anything I said “completely wrong”?
Of course Shia were victimized by ISIS, because Shia are perceived as “heretics” by pious Sunnis.
Sunnis and Shia are rivals in their views of Islam, and they regularly oppress and slaughter each other.
gravenimage says
Jay Boo, Chand often spews apologia for Islam. At best, he is a very equivocal poster.
Sharyati says
But Chand the Shia Militias who lent a hand to crush the ISIS in Syria/Iraq are now on a killing spree there. They are not any peace corps and to them not Shiites are Takfiris/Munafique. They are now persecuting the Sunnis there. And how can you distinguish which of the 2 flavors of the Jihadis are bad?
Historically speaking every flavor of Muslim Jihad against the Kaffir/infidel/mushrikoon etc has been VV Bad. You know probably know that India was equally ravaged by Sufi/Shia/Sunni Jihadis??
Btw i do not think what gravenimage says is completely wrong. What logic made you to come to that conclusion?
Kepha says
Shi’ite raadicals and Sunnite radicals slaughtering each other in Syria is a classic case of a conflict in which the USA should play no part.

This slogan leaves something to be desired; it does not have the right cadence and meter for a catchy street chant. But perhaps it has lost something in translation; maybe the Farsi version even rhymes. Can anyone find a video of this chant?
Terry Gain says
You raise a most excellent point. No protest is worthwhile if it lacks ” has got to go”. The actual chant is
“Khamenei and Obama have got to go. Give those tyrants the heave-ho.”
Mark Spahn (West Seneca, NY) says
Thanks, Terry, your version is certainly an improvement, but the meter is not quite right; it needs another syllable in the last line, like “Khamenei and Obama have got to go / Give those tyrants the ol’ heave-ho!”
But I doubt this is the actual chant; for one thing, Obama has already gone. Has anybody found video of the chant in Farsi?

Ayatollah Yazidi
The truth about islam……. from one who knows!
For if anyone knows the truth about the islamic cult of allah-hubaal{the moslem counterfeit god that is in opposition to the True God of Moses}surely it is a senior moslem clergyman.
And it is not just violence that is at the heart of islam ;since allah omitted the Two Chief Commandments{the most essential and most supreme laws of God found in Judaism and Christianity but COMPLETELY MISSING in islam}…hatred and lies too are at the very center of their creed.
If muslims loved God they would obey His laws(and they would not follow allah’s warped teacahings in his “perfect” koran). They don’t.
Instead, they put on a daily show of worthless, fraudulent piety which provides no possibility anyway of salvation for their souls since they reject the True God in favor of a gross misrepresentation of God which they say is “allah”.
Violence,hatred and lies are the way of allah and his “prophet”{sbuh}

Islam lives in two major principles
1. suppression of women by males due to their fear of adultery / honor
2. Hatred for the other…infidels / atheists / homoscxuals
The most critical factor for muslims to be united is suppression of women.
If all Iranian women dress up in mini skirts, show decent affection in public places, demand adultery is not a criminal offence, declare they will have boy friends before marriage, dance with boyfriends in discos………….. Islam will be dead in minutes………..

One of things about these protests that must be worrying to the mullahs is that many of the protesters seem to be royalists calling for the return of the Shah. There is a precedent in Afghanistan for that. For many Iranians there would be little appeal to that, but the Crown Prince may yet prove to be a useful figure head for the anti regime movement.
Markus Aurelius, author "Bleeding for Allah" says
The grassroots Iranian movement must be supported by the media in every way possible, even by the pathetic, self-absorbed ant-Trump US media cult. The fanatical Muslim leadership fears little domestically but is sensitive to world view affecting trade, particularly with socialist Europe and misguided Germany. The US must avoid any military “shows of force” as this will be easily manipulated to the Iran’s bloodthirsty, and oh-so-God-fearing, religious demagogues. Not one thing that they do is in the interest of the average Iranian “citizen”.

Here from your Koran… Who is the Holy Spirit ?
[15.29] “…So when I have made him complete and breathed into him of My spirit, fall down making obeisance to him….”
Why are the angles asked to bow down before Adam?
The answer is because Allah breathed in him his own spirit… So if Allah is divine, what would that make his spirit?
[19.17] “…So she took a veil (to screen herself) from them; then We sent to her Our Spirit, and there appeared to her a well-made man….”
so who is this Spirit who is not an angel and is able to transform himself into a man?
Lastly in your post you have committed the most grevious of sins… Blasphemy of the Holy Spirit….
In Mark, Jesus says: “Truly, I say to you, all sins will be forgiven the children of man, and whatever blasphemies they utter, but whoever blasphemes against the Holy Spirit never has forgiveness, but is guilty of an eternal sin.” (Mark 3.28-29)
