And the 'Administrator of the Year' for 2023 goes to…Leola Mixon of Aperion Care Midlothian! 🏆 Leola was chosen from over 40 Aperion Care facilities to receive this prestigious award at this year's annual conference. With an impressive 32 years in the long-term care industry, Leola's career began as an Activity Aide. She quickly advanced to Activity Director, followed by five years as an Admission and Marketing Director before pursuing nursing school. As an LPN, Leola gained diverse skills as a Nursing Supervisor, Infection Control Nurse, Restorative Nurse and Staff Development Coordinator. For the past 14 years, she has served as an LNHA, with seven and counting at Aperion Care. Since joining the Midlothian team, Leola has been instrumental in stabilizing census and referral processes. Her expectations of her staff mirror her own commitment, always prioritizing the well-being of both residents and employees. Whether discussing a referral or stepping in to assist in various roles, Leola is always eager to lend a hand. Inspired by her early experiences caring for her great-grandmother, who lost both legs to diabetes, Leola knew she could make a difference in people’s lives through compassionate care. “My heart melts every time a resident tells me they really feel safe living at Aperion Care Midlothian,” Leola shares. “This recognition is probably one of my proudest moments – proof that hard work and dedication always win!” Thank you, Leola, for your outstanding leadership and contributions to Aperion Care Midlothian and the long-term care field. And the 'MDS of the Year' for 2023 goes to...Carrie Woolley of Aperion Care Peru! 🏆 Carrie was chosen from over 40 Aperion Care facilities to receive this prestigious award at this year's annual conference. Carrie began her journey with Aperion Care at the Kokomo location as a brand-new MDS Coordinator just a few months before the pandemic. She transitioned to Peru in January 2022 and achieved her RAC-CT certification by January 2024. Throughout her 21-year nursing career, Carrie has explored diverse opportunities, including roles as: ☑️ A long-term care unit nurse ☑️ An IT Clinical Informatics specialist, supporting and training medical staff on various software systems for both ambulatory and acute settings ☑️ An intake nurse for the Cass County Indiana Department of Corrections – Male Juvenile Division (an eye-opening experience!) “I love my job now as an MDSC,” says Carrie. “MDS is an ever-evolving field, providing multiple challenges and opportunities for education and growth. I love the continuous learning that keeps me mentally engaged. And the 'Director of Nursing of the Year' for 2023 goes to... Gabriela Pries of Aperion Care Peru! 🏆 Gabi was selected from over 40 Aperion Care facilities to receive this prestigious award at this year's annual conference. Gabi’s journey at Peru began in August 2018 when she applied for the Assistant Director of Nursing position. Prior to joining the company, she earned her Associate’s Degree in Nursing while working full-time as an LPN in various long-term care facilities, eventually being promoted to Unit Manager. Just a day after starting at Aperion Care, she was thrilled to be offered the Director of Nursing role! Working with Gabi is always a pleasure. She is quick to respond, happy to review any referral and consistently makes the best decisions for the facility. Providers continue to praise Peru for its home-like atmosphere, where residents and staff enjoy each other's company, often sharing jokes and laughter. “I don’t work for awards," says Gabi simply. "I just come in and think about what needs to be done and work towards that goal. Lauren Hazlett may be new to long-term care, but her customer service skills are unparalleled! Lauren joined Aperion Care Demotte as the Admissions Director in October 2023, bringing over a decade of experience in Social Services to her new role. She enjoys engaging with residents and their families, serving as their first internal point of contact.
