The visit to the Seattle area by Dilawar Syed, Deputy Administrator, U.S. Small Business Administration, earlier this week included the opportunity to learn about some of the exciting and innovative companies in Western Washington. Michael Madrid, Director of Strategic Partnerships, Starfish Space, explained some of the company’s robotics technology to Dilawar Syed, Deputy Administrator; Mark Ranneberger, Senior Advisor; Melanie Norton, District Director, SBA Seattle District Office; and Beto Yarce, Regional Administrator. The group also learned about Starfish Space’s “Otter Pup,’ an autonomous satellite serving vehicle. It uses electric propulsion to dock will satellites with the intent to extend the life of satellites and dispose as warranted. Starfish Space later hosted a roundtable discussion with other companies that received Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) funding. Among those participants who had one-on-one time with DA Syed were Christopher Own with Voxa, a nanotech scientific instrument company that enables nano-imaging for use on Earth and in space. Thank you to all of the SBIR Roundtable participants: Mark Ranneberger, SBA Senior Advisor; Beto Yarce, Regional Administrator; Austin Link, CEO and Co-founder, Starfish Space; Lindsay Pino, Chief Technology Officer and Co-founder, TalusBio ; Chris Woodruff, COO and Co-founder, Aquagga Inc.; Dilawar Syed, Deputy Administrator; Bradnon Seltz, CEO and Founder, TakeFlight Interactive; Michael Madrid, Director of Strategic Partnerships, Starfish Space; Melanie Norton, District Director, Seattle District Office; Tiffany Scroggs, Program Director, Washington APEX Accelerator; and Chris Own, CEO and Founder, VOXA.
