  • Ready, set, rehab! Our patients took on the Sticht Center Olympics with Olympic-sized spirit! 🏅 Inspired by the 2024 Summer Olympic Games, our Recreation Therapy team (including facility dog Trusty) recently sponsored the “Sticht Center Olympics,” motivating physical and occupational therapy patients to reach their goals while having fun. From javelin throws with pool noodles to Nerf target shooting, patients aged 13 and up competed in fun events while advancing their therapy goals. With divisions for different stages of rehab, everyone had a chance to shine. "Many were surprised at how well they did because they didn’t think achieving their goal was possible," said Rehab Manager Blair Davis. And Trusty added a special touch by delivering medals with an inflatable torch! 🐾🔥 Through cheers and joyful tears, it was more than just a competition for our patients—it was a celebration of their strength and resilience. 🌟💪

  • A significant milestone at Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist! Our team recently successfully implanted the first commercial Barostim device. This innovative carotid baroreceptor stimulator is designed to improve heart function and alleviate heart failure symptoms for patients who do not qualify for advanced therapies or those we hope to delay clinical decompensation. The Barostim device works by activating the body’s natural cardiovascular reflexes, which helps to reduce the workload on the heart and enhance overall cardiac function. A special thank you to everyone involved in developing and implementing this workflow. Your dedication and hard work have been instrumental in achieving this success. As we move forward, we aim to increase the number of patients benefiting from this cutting-edge therapy, providing them with renewed hope and an improved quality of life.

  • Surviving a crash and inspiring a career: Meet Grace Pryor, pharmacy tech. 💪👩⚕️ In 2016, Grace Pryor, then a college student, was in a severe car crash caused by a texting driver. With a broken leg and immense pain, she was rushed to Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center, the region’s only Level I Trauma Center. The care she received left a lasting impression. Grace recalls another pivotal moment from her eighth grade visit to Atrium Health Levine Children’s Brenner Children’s Hospital for stomach issues. Diagnosed with IBS, she felt safe and reassured by the compassionate care of her doctors and nurses. Her emergency room experience after the car crash sparked her interest in emergency medicine. The calm and caring demeanor of her providers and nurses inspired her to pursue a career in healthcare. In 2021, Grace joined the North Tower Pharmacy at Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center as a pharmacy tech. Now, she's a PharmD candidate at Wingate University School of Pharmacy. Despite ongoing treatment for her leg injury, including six surgeries, Grace is determined to complete her fourth-year rotations at Wake Forest Baptist and hopes to do a residency in the ED. Grace loves working at Wake Forest Baptist because it feels like a close-knit community where everyone is treated like family. Her favorite part of the job is interacting with patients and their families, always bringing a smile to their faces. Grace’s journey from patient to healthcare provider is truly inspiring. Her resilience and dedication remind us that kindness and compassion can make all the difference.
