🌍⌛ Today, 1 August, 2024, is #EarthOvershootDay: the day we’ve used up more of our planet’s resources than it can regenerate in a year. This date has advanced by five months over the past 60 years, and now, we would need 1.75 Earths to sustain humanity's current consumption rates. Businesses often contribute to this problem by consuming more resources than the planet can regenerate and prioritizing short-term profits over long-term sustainability. But #BCorps are proving that businesses can—and must—also be part of the solution. By moving away from economic principles that promote greed, wealth inequality, and ecological collapse, the #BCorpMovement is working towards a future where businesses regenerate rather than deplete our planet’s resources. As the climate crisis intensifies, it is crucial to accelerate our efforts to #MoveTheDate of Earth Overshoot Day. We must shift from incremental improvements to substantial, impactful actions. This urgency is why the standards for #BCorpCertification are evolving. Wondering what the future of work will look like? Spoiler alert: it’s green! 🌱 With climate change intensifying and companies racing to go green, roles like sustainability analysts and chief sustainability officer are among the fastest-growing globally, according to LinkedIn. But here’s the catch: only 1 in 8 people have the skills needed to tackle the climate crisis, and women are particularly underrepresented. #BCorps are rising to the occasion. Compared to ordinary businesses, B Corps are 2x more likely to provide training on social or environmental issues and 3.3x more likely to incorporate these into managers' evaluations. In 2023 alone, 550,000 B Corp employees received such training. Learn more in our 2023 Annual Report: https://bit.ly/3Uv8z7n #SustainabilityJobs #BCorpMovement

The last two financial crises resulted in recessions, financial market instability, and high unemployment rates, but one group of companies proved resilient. #BenefitCorporations – businesses that balance profit with social and environmental impact – experienced crisis attrition rates of less than 5%. In the latest podcast episode of Work for Humans with Dart Lindsley, Bart Houlahan, co-founder of B Lab, shares why companies that invest in people outperform in their field, the three main components of a #BCorporation, and the long-term benefits of stakeholder capitalism. "The purpose of business is about creating value for all of its stakeholders, not just exclusively its shareholders. And what I am excited to tell people is that, over and over again, we are seeing that they are not a different choice and that, in fact, trying to consider and make decisions for your stakeholders drives value for your shareholders over the long haul.” — Bart Houlahan. 🌟🎧 Listen to the full episode here: https://lnkd.in/dk2JeCgf #PodcastEpisode #StakeholderCapitalism #BCorp #Sustainability
