Yesterday afternoon, Dr. Rendell presented the State of the Schools address at the annual Cocoa Beach Chamber of Commerce event, hosted at Florida Tech. The luncheon brought together leaders in education, including Dr. John Nicklow, President of the Florida Institute of Technology, as they discussed the future of education in Brevard. Brevard Public Schools congratulates Marilyn Chappie on her recent retirement! Marilyn has served BPS for 38 years, most recently as the Director of Early Childhood. Prior to this year, she also served for seven years as a principal supervisor. Her longest leadership tenure was at Longleaf Elementary where she served for 17 years, two as the Assistant Principal and 15 as the Principal. She is a lifelong Brevard resident and attended Brevard schools beginning in Kindergarten at Dr. W.J. Creel Elementary School and graduated from Eau Gallie High School. We wish her well as she moves into this next phase of retirement! Thank you, Marilyn, for your many years of dedication to our students, teachers, and BPS as a whole.

  Brevard Public Schools is thrilled to announce that our school district was recently named an official Designated Space County by Space Florida. On August 2, 2024, BPS joined 23 other Florida school districts and community leaders alongside Space Florida at the Kennedy Space Center where a special event was held to highlight the importance of Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs focusing on the aerospace industry. BPS Superintendent Dr. Mark Rendell and School Board Chair Megan Wright signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Space Florida, launching the Space Florida Academy Program during the event. BPS is one of the most comprehensive districts, currently offering 17 unique certificate programs and 53 industry credentials through our CTE programs that tie directly into the aerospace industry. In collaboration with industry leaders, the Florida Department of Education, the Florida Department of Commerce, the REACH Office (Reimagining Education and Career Help), and CareerSource, the Space Florida Academy Program will focus on reframing aerospace job characterization by targeting the following areas: Aviation/Aerospace, Advanced Manufacturing, Construction, Cybersecurity/IT, Logistics, Semiconductors. We are proud to continue offering exceptional CTE programs that are truly out of this world! 🚀

Brevard Public Schools (BPS) is thrilled to announce that the district has received an "A" rating for the first time since 2019. This accomplishment is particularly significant as the State of Florida raised the grading threshold for secondary schools from 62 percent to 64 percent this year.
