If you were on social media last week, you might have seen a viral video of a guy dancing to Kendrick Lamar's hit song "Not Like Us" at a July 30 rally for Vice President Kamala Harris. That guy was Parker S., president of the Young Democrats of Georgia. Short, 22, has been involved in politics since 2017, when he was 15 years old and interned for Sen. Jon Ossoff's failed bid for Congress. Now, in his final months as president of the Young Dems of Georgia, Short said his viral moment has helped create a platform to inform people about the policy issues he's been passionate about for years. I enjoyed speaking with Short for Business Insider. We spoke about his family's experience with survivor Social Security, why he got into politics in his home state of Georgia, and his perspective on the importance of federal aid programs. "Social Security allowed me to have a roof over my head, allowed me to go to school, allowed me to invest in myself, and give back to my community," Short told me. "I view this as America investing in me, and I will always invest in America." Read more of our interview at Business Insider: https://lnkd.in/e9hYej_p
