For #IndigenousDay, we’re honored to highlight the palpability of the vibrant, ancestral relationship that Indigenous Peoples have with the land. José Ignacio Giraldo Arango, Indigenous Peoples specialist with the Programa Amazonia Mía de USAID, emphasizes that "on this day, we honor those silent guardians who have maintained the balance between nature and culture. Their light steps cross ancestral landscapes, guarding 80% of the planet's #biodiversity, an invaluable treasure that life has given us".

Today, we join the United Nations in celebrating the incredible cultural diversity, resilience, and contributions of #IndigenousPeoples around the world. Indigenous communities often face significant challenges, including land loss, cultural erosion, and socioeconomic exclusion – challenges which are further magnified by the impacts of #ClimateChange. Chemonics is committed to thoughtful, direct engagement with Indigenous voices to ensure their expertise is integrated throughout our programming. This photo, taken by Juan Carlos Gomez, highlights the Guambianos #IndigenousPeople from Silvia, Cauca, #Colombia, who partner with the USAID Paramos and Forests Activity to protect one of Colombia’s most crucial ecosystems: the Paramos. 🌿💧 With USAID's support, the Guambianos and other local partners are working to safeguard 100,000 hectares of these vital lands, which provide water for 70% of Colombia’s population and store more carbon in their soil than tropical forests. Happy #WorldDayOfIndigenousPeoples!🌱💚

🌟Meet one of our summer interns: Era Andriambololona🌟 Era joined Chemonics as a summer intern in our #PrivateSectorEngagement (PSE) Practice. Era has taken her love for #ImpactInvesting to new levels in and outside Chemonics. Recently, along with her team at the The George Washington University, she won the IFC - International Finance Corporation’s Impact Investing Challenge 2024, which allows students to showcase their interest in impact investing by designing a debt or equity fund to address a unique challenge. This year, the challenge focused on the intersection of #ClimateAction and #GenderEquity. During this challenge, her team created a blended finance fund designed to transition the seaweed farming industry in #Tanzania, #Madagascar, and #SouthAfrica—which is predominantly female— to bioplastics production. Her accomplishment is impressive and represents her deep passion for #InternationalDevelopment. She is currently a graduate student in international business, which has driven her interest in the PSE practice. During her summer internship, she contributed to projects like the Women Rising Initiative, which aims to unleash the power of women fund managers. A highlight for Era was “participating in team retreats with the Strategy Division and technical practices, which allowed me to connect with the US-based team and experience Chemonics' positive work environment. I am grateful to the exceptional PSE team— Dany Khy, B. James Soukamneuth, Ayla Bitmouni, Peter Barsamian, and Karanina Bhattacharjee—for the opportunity to learn, contribute, and collaborate effectively.” #DevelopmentWorksHere

With more than 31 million users, Iraq’s digital media space offers tremendous potential to unify communities and encourage collaboration. How can donors and implementing partners support local change-makers to share their stories? In this new blog, Wud Salam reflects upon the experience of the USAID - Office of Transition Initiatives (OTI)-funded Iraq Community Resilience Initiative to offer five pillars for successfully leveraging digital media to promote peace.
