As the workforce landscape evolves, we must recognize the unique skills that service members and their spouses bring to their professions. Their skill sets are highly valuable and highly sought after by employers, making veterans and military spouses indispensable to our workforce. During a recent visit to Camp Pendleton, Marine Corps Air Station Miramar, Marine Corps Recruit Depot San Diego, and National University, we saw the talent we serve in action, and their work amazed us. We were honored to accompany HOH and Toyota North America Ambassador Dakota Meyer to San Diego. Dakota's interactions with more than 3,000 Marines and sailors are a powerful reminder of the skill sets veterans bring to their roles daily. From aviation supply to firefighters to mechanics, artillery Marines, recruiters, and drill instructors, this visit underscored the extraordinary skills transitioning service members bring to the careers they choose and the employers that choose to hire them. The trip also highlighted the similar skills, compounded by resiliency, flexibility, and determination, that military spouses bring to the table. If you haven't experienced one of our ambassador visits, now's the time. Next week, Medal of Honor recipient Clint Romesha will be at Fort Carson. We hope to see you there. 𝗪𝗼𝗿𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗕𝗲𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗧𝗼𝗴𝗲𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿 HOH was honored to co-host the 11th Annual Warrior Symposium with America's Warrior Partnership (AWP) at our headquarters in the U.S. Chamber of Commerce. If you are not familiar with AWP and its mission, you should be. AWP is committed to partnering with communities to prevent veteran suicide. They do that in two distinct ways: they ensure that local VSOs have the right resources and services for their community and connect veterans to those organizations when they need support. For our part, HOH is proud to serve as an employment referral partner of AWP. Finding a right-fit career opportunity can positively contribute to mental wellbeing, and HOH’s Career Connector team, led by Cara Cooke, is ready to help you on your journey. Many thanks to AWP and all of our partners who attended this event for their collective work for transitioning service members, veterans, and military spouses. Special thanks to Wells Fargo, Fiserv, and USAA for being sponsors. #WarriorSymposium24 #BetterTogether #veterans Jim Lorraine | Michael F. Hiring Our Heroes has long been committed to creating economic opportunity and meaningful careers. In some cases, for our military community, that may involve transition and looking for a new civilian career. In other cases, it involves continued service by staying in the military. That latter commitment was on full display this week in Hawaii. Led by Medal of Honor recipient and Toyota North America Brand Ambassador Dakota Meyer, HOH was honored to participate in five promotion and re-enlistment ceremonies for more than 150 Sailors, Soldiers, and Marines currently stationed in Hawaii. During his remarks, Dakota underscored the importance of continued service and how imperative it—especially in today’s world of political unrest—that we retain America’s best and brightest in service. He also emphasized the critical role of military spouse employment and taking care of families. We couldn’t agree more. Congratulations to the Sailors, Soldiers, and Marines that re-committed to wearing the nation’s cloth. We are grateful for what you have done and will continue to do for our country. P.S. When you are thinking about finding a civilian career, we can help you do that too! Brett Miles, MBA | Megan Jolly Fergason | U.S. Pacific Fleet | Elizabeth OBrien | Cheryl A. Randy Neitzel felt like he was spinning his wheels. 🚗 He didn’t want to work in human relations anymore, but he wasn’t sure which career field was a good fit for him. Also, hiring managers struggled to see how Neitzel’s skills applied to other career fields. Undeterred, Neitzel attended a Hiring Our Heroes Virtual Hiring Fair. There he connected with CarMax — an employer he hadn’t considered before this hiring event even though CarMax is a national retailer with more than 200 stores, including one near him in Tucson, Arizona. Soon, Neitzel learned about CarMax’s commitment to a diverse and inclusive workplace, along with its dedication to hiring veterans. “Military-connected talent brings attributes such as initiative, leadership, critical thinking, dedication, and many other great qualities in addition to highly trained and self-disciplined professionalism to an organization,” said Keith Fox, senior recruiter in military sourcing at CarMax. Now, Neitzel is thriving in his new role at CarMax. “I get to be a guide in the car-buying process. I help people find a vehicle they need at a price they can afford,” he said. “It’s fun to do something different than what I’ve been doing for last 30 years.” Have you considered a career in transportation? 🚚 🚃 ✈️ Through virtual hiring fairs and career exploration events hosted by Hiring Our Heroes, you can learn about career fields that align with your interests, values, and skills. Here are four upcoming hiring events focused on careers in the transportation industry: ⭐ September 5: Fort Campbell Career Exploration & Hiring Fair: Transportation & Logistics ⭐ September 11: Virtual Hiring Fair: Logistics, Skills Trades, and Transportation ⭐ November 20: Virtual Hiring Fair: Logistics, Skills Trades, and Transportation You can register for these events or browse the entire Hiring Our Heroes’ calendar at https://bit.ly/3QmL0eK We hope to see you at an upcoming event! 🤝 Eric Eversole | Elizabeth OBrien | Alyssa Hjembo | Cara Cooke | Carla Miller, MHR, MAIR | Jana Toner | Caitlin Wright
