Curious about PFAS in the metal plating industry? Our fact sheet dives into the details. PFAS have been used in the metal finishing industry since the 1950s for a variety of purposes. PFAS, particularly PFOS, have been used as mist suppressants that are added to metal plating and finishing baths to prevent air emissions of toxic metal fumes. In addition, PFAS can be used in plating activities, including hard and decorative chrome plating; chromic acid anodizing; nickel, cadmium, or lead plating; metal plating on plastics; and alkaline zinc plating to reduce the surface tension of the electrolyte solution. Studies show use of PFAS in these settings can result in high concentration wastewater discharges (USEPA 2009b) and air emissions. Want to learn more about PFAS in the metal plating industry? For this edition of HRP How To, we're delving into the art of tying knots for field work, focusing on the bowline knot. Known for its reliability and simplicity, the bowline knot has a history that dates back to ancient times. Its name derives from its use on ships, where the knot was used to secure the edges of the sails. This knot is essential due to its ability to form a secure loop that will not slip or jam, even under heavy load, yet is easy to untie. Its dependable nature and ease of use have made it a favorite among sailors, climbers, and rescue workers throughout history. Follow the link below to check out the video, and don't forget to subscribe to catch all the knots! https://lnkd.in/eqxyBkz9. #HowTo #Knot #Bowline #AEC #AECIndustry #Engineering #Environmental #Compliance #Geology #Consulting
