Last week, we had the incredible opportunity to participate in an advertising competition among HBCU schools in partnership with the American Advertising Federation and IPG Mediabrands. These students represent the bright future of media and advertising, and we were honored to welcome the winning team for a tour of iHeart HQ and interviews with some of the most influential cultural figures in our network. Huge thanks to everyone who contributed to the success of this program!
A huge moment to celebrate — this past spring, I had the honor of serving as a coach for UMs Annual “HBCU 4 Advertising” competition. For the assignment, each HBCU Team was tasked with taking a campaign brief and turning it into a “go to market” plan, with iHeart Media serving as this year’s client. Not only did the team from Alabama A&M deliver, they delivered in style. Our win in this competition culminated in a trip to NY, touring the iHeart headquarters. Moments like these are what remind me as a leader that this industry is “bigger” than one person, and that there is a next wave of talent on the horizon. Programs such as these help fuel the pipeline, while providing for a platform for tomorrow’s young, black, voices in advertising. A HUGE shoutout to the students, their honorable professor Alicia D. Cooper PhD, my co-coaches Katelyn Tyrrell & Steve Hall and the outstanding Kelli Perkins for being the program lead on this important initiative (too many others to thank). Go Bulldogs!! Go US!! ✊🏾✊🏾
