About us

Michigan Central is a hub in Detroit dedicated to advancing new technologies and programs that address barriers to greater social, economic, and physical mobility. Anchored by the iconic, reimagined Michigan Central Station, Michigan Central is both a convening place and a call-to-action - for city, regional and international inventors and investors, academics and entrepreneurs, civil society voices and government leaders, and business owners and corporate partners - to advance a more sustainable, equitable future through a community-based approach to mobility solutions. This vibrant 30-acre site nestled between the Corktown and Southwest Detroit neighborhoods will serve as a destination for Detroiters and visitors alike - inviting people to shop, dine out, attend concerts and live events, and participate in educational programming, while innovators create in purpose-built spaces with smart infrastructure and embedded technology. Building on Detroit’s rich history as an engine of change, the transformative project aims to strengthen the city’s existing fabric of community and electrify its economy, while inspiring collective action on the most pressing challenges at the intersection of mobility and society worldwide. The right mobility solutions have massive potential to change the world for the better. Creating them will take the world’s best minds, working together, at Michigan Central.

100k and Counting! “Being the 100,000th person to enter this epic building has made me recognize the future is bright and Detroit has been given a fresh start. We wanted to relive the nostalgia of the train station, see the enhancements, and witness how Detroit has been revitalized. This will be an epic reminder that Detroit is back,” said Pastor Robert D. Lodge of the People’s Missionary Baptist Church on Detroit’s east side. Joined by his family on August 2nd, Pastor Lodge was our 100,000th Station visitor. Don’t miss your chance to experience our OPEN exhibits before Summer at The Station ends. We’re open for self-guided tours Fridays 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. and Saturdays 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. through the end of August. PLUS, we’re adding two more days for Labor Day weekend, Sunday, Sept. 1 and Monday, Sept. 2 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Over the course of the past month, Southwest STEM labs hosted the STEM Explorers Summer Day Camp where we provided middle school students with memorable experiences and valuable skills for future academic and career success. In addition to daily activities, our camp featured weekly field trips to local colleges, STEM learning centers, and recreational venues. These trips exposed students to various career pathways in STEM, cultivating a passion for learning and exploring the endless possibilities within these fields. We are deeply grateful to the incredible organizations that opened their doors and welcomed our STEM explorers. Your dedication to fostering curiosity and learning has made a lasting impact on these young minds. More specifically, thank you to the following individuals from their respective organizations for devoting their time to make these visits become a reality: - LIFT, Bernie Simms - College for Creative Studies, Jane Stewart - University of Detroit Mercy School of Dentistry, Betsy Lozano - Newlab Michigan Central ; Victoria Daniel, Andrea Hicks, Sean White - International Wildlife Refuge Alliance, Todd Weston From hands-on experiences to behind-the-scenes tours, each visit ignited a passion for community, science, technology, engineering, and math. Your generosity and support are truly shaping the future of these students. Thank you for being pivotal in our mission to inspire and educate the next generation of innovators. Your support and collaboration are invaluable, and we look forward to many more opportunities to work together in the future! #STEM #Education #ThankYou #CommunitySupport #FutureLeaders

I'm super excited to be participating in Detroit Homecoming along with legends Trevor Lauer and John W. Rogers, Jr. and talking about Detroit's bright future. We're all deeply engaged and invested in Detroit's success, and I have never been more proud of my heritage as a Detroit Original! I have a deeply held thesis related to climate migration and the inevitable boom of the Great Lakes States, and view our work in Detroit as building the "operating system" for how to drive community-focused investment in smart, energy-efficient, fun and exciting ways.
