About us
New Leaf Energy is one of the leading developers of renewable energy and energy storage projects in the United States—both distributed generation and utility scale. Headquartered in Lowell, MA, with employees and projects spanning the country, New Leaf Energy was formed in 2022 out of Borrego’s market-leading solar and energy storage development business, which extends back to 1980. At New Leaf Energy, we partner with landowners, utilities, and local communities to secure, design, and permit commercial, community, and utility-scale renewable energy and energy storage projects and prepare them for sale to long-term asset owners. Together with our partners, we aim to accelerate the adoption of renewable energy in service of the goal of rapidly decarbonizing our society.

We love to see our team celebrated for how wonderful they are. And we're particularly proud of our own Jacqueline Ashmore, PhD's work with New England Women in Energy and the Environment (NEWIEE).
MEMBER SPOTLIGHT: Jacqueline Ashmore, PhD is Executive Vice President of Engineering for New Leaf Energy, Inc., a NEWIEE Board Member and Mentoring Co-Chair, and past NEWIEE President (2018-2020). She loves to spend time with her husband and teenage daughters, run, bike, or read a good book. Earlier in her career, she also had an office from which she could see into Stephen Hawking's office! "NEWIEE is a powerful network that supports women and people from other underrepresented groups finding their first job in energy and the environment, advancing through their career, and rising into leadership positions. I have found wonderful long-term mentors and sponsors through NEWIEE, and I have mentored others too." Thanks for being a part of NEWIEE, Jacquie! #CareerMentoring #RenewableEnergyTransition #PeerMentoring

This summer, New Leaf has welcomed four stellar interns to our team: Aidan Abernathy, a Civil Engineering Intern, will be entering his senior year at The City College of New York in Manhattan studying Civil and Environmental Engineering. Ella Prabhakar, also a Civil Engineering Intern, is another rising senior at UMass Amherst studying Civil/Environmental Engineering. Lou Arrouays, a Business Development Intern for EV Charging, is a student at Boston University studying Internal Relations and Affairs and Business Administration and Management. Yang Gao, a Transmission Analyst Intern, is full-time graduate student at Bentley University studying Business Analytics. We're thrilled to have them with us for the summer, and as always, to nurture new and exciting talent within the field of renewable energy. Welcome! 🌿

We're about a month into life at our newest office, at the corner of LaSalle and Lake Streets in Chicago's Central Business District. Open workstations, lovely conference rooms, expansive city views, just blocks from the Riverwalk...it's a real gem, right in the thick of an incredible city. This alsomarks New Leaf Energy's FIFTH office, joining our constellation of beautiful, in-person workspaces in Lowell, Boston, Oakland, and Troy. It's quite a feat to grow from one office to five in just two years—and we couldn't be happier to be collaborating in-person, or more grateful to our operations team for making it happen. 🌿 🌆

A big focus of our work at New Leaf Energy is working with landowners to lease their land for renewable energy projects: ground-mounted solar arrays, wind farms, and energy storage systems. In the course of that work, we often field questions from landowners and communities about what the development process is like from a landowner perspective. Here's a nice, crisp overview of what landowners can expect from working with New Leaf Energy, from the first conversation through project decommissioning.
