We're thrilled to share the success of our public micromobility charging program with partners New York City Department of Transportation (NYC DOT) and New York City Economic Development Corporation (NYCEDC)! This initiative marks a significant step forward in providing affordable and dependable electric charging for food delivery workers! 🚴♂️⚡️ Launched five months ago, the pilot program features cutting-edge technologies from our member startups: Popwheels, Swiftmile, and Swobbee. These include improved e-bike batteries, a battery charging and storage swapping network, and open-air bike charging. Since its inception, the program has seen over 8,000 battery swaps and nearly 1,000 on-site e-bike charges at pilot locations in Manhattan and Brooklyn. The program has not only boosted productivity for delivery workers but also enhanced safety by reducing the need for home charging, a key component of Mayor Adams' 'Charge Safe, Ride Safe' initiative. Thank you to our partners and startups on this collaboration. We look forward to the continued success of these pilots and future innovations in micromobility infrastructure. Check out a brief snippet of the pilot in action below. 🌟 Read the full press release here: https://lnkd.in/gQA7ECRq Learn more about the pilot here: https://lnkd.in/gTJeiTAm

🏞️ Meet David R. Medina Álvarez, Newlab Detroit member and founder and CEO of LIVAQ. In 2022, David launched LIVAQ, an electric off-road vehicle company. In 2023, he became one of our earliest members at Newlab Detroit at Michigan Central after completing his studies at the College for Creative Studies in the city. Utilizing Newlab’s advanced prototyping and 3D printing facilities, David and his team developed the Equad, a uniquely engineered electric ATV designed for a captivating off-roading experience with less environmental consequence. With two 16-kilowatt motors running at 1400 rpm, the Equad can reach speeds of up to 87 mph and offers a range of 170 miles on a single charge. All with no emissions, noise pollution, or overheating. In the short time since developing the high-powered prototype, he’s kicked off pilot programs in partnership with Michigan Central and Innovate Marquette SmartZone, and is currently in discussions for a potential program with the Gobierno de la República de México (government of Mexico). Hear David’s inspiring story and witness the Equad in action, powering through the Silver Lake Sand Dunes of Western Michigan. Newlab and Michigan Central are proud to support David and LIVAQ in accelerating his journey! Congratulations to itselectric on securing $6.5M in funding to expand operations and accelerate curbside EV charging across seven US cities including Detroit, Jersey City, and Los Angeles in 2024! We’re excited to welcome itselectric into our portfolio and to have participated in this funding round led by Uber and Failup Ventures. This latest funding round will bring itselectric’s affordable and accessible EV infrastructure to some of the densest urban areas in the country with key deployments directly supporting Uber’s goal of helping rideshare drivers go electric. itselectric’s chargers are installed and maintained at no cost to cities, utilities, or property owners, and help build the infrastructure that will allow gas cars to be replaced with EVs. You can try them out for yourself at both Newlab locations inside Michigan Central and the Brooklyn Navy Yard Development Corporation. The bonus: property owners earn passive income – aligning climate action with urban living, making cleaner, greener cities a reality. Join us in congratulating itselectric!
