PHA partners with the private sector to transform the food landscape in pursuit of health equity.
About us
At the Partnership for a Healthier America (PHA), reducing childhood obesity is our north star. PHA partners with the private sector to transform the food landscape in pursuit of health equity. We work with the private sector and PHA Honorary Chair Former First Lady Michelle Obama to make healthier choices easier for busy parents and families. In 2010, PHA was created in conjunction with Former First Lady Michelle Obama’s Let’s Move! effort. A nonpartisan nonprofit organization led by some of the nation’s most respected health and childhood obesity experts, PHA brings together public, private, and nonprofit leaders to broker meaningful commitments and develop strategies to end childhood obesity. We ensure that commitments made are commitments kept by working with unbiased third parties to monitor and publicly report on the progress our partners are making.

We’re excited to share the results of our recent Good Food at Home program! Running from December 2023 to February 2024 in Englewood, NJ, Denver, CO, Milwaukee, WI, and Washington, DC, we provided over a thousand families with $60 in Fresh Funds for three months to purchase fresh produce on Instacart. We're inspired by these initial results but recognize there’s still work to be done. That’s why we’re expanding this program to more cities soon! We're thrilled to share that our work in the Mississippi Delta through Rootswell was featured in The Guardian! Journalist Adria Walker did an amazing job reviewing SOIL - New Work by Justin Hardiman, an art exhibit sponsored by Rootswell that highlighted Black farmers and local community members. The article weaves together the stories behind some of the photos and includes an interview with the photographer, Justin Hardiman, and our Manager of MS Programs, Tyler Yarbrough. They both speak to the importance of bringing these untold stories to the forefront so that the community can take back the narrative of the Mississippi Delta. Last week, PHA attended the USDA MyPlate Convening at the Amazon Visitor Landing Office! The convening featured remarks from USDA leadership and a fireside chat with industry thought leaders. Amazon Access hosted a pre-event panel, "Advancing Nutrition Security: Collaborations Grounded in Innovation," where our President and CEO, Noreen Springstead, discussed PHA's partnerships to boost produce consumption. The event offered incredible opportunities to connect with MyPlate partners, USDA leaders, and other attendees interested in learning how to make MyPlate a household name. Enjoy these photos of Noreen Springstead alongside the other amazing panelists, and pictured with our Manager of Nutrition and Health Programs, Amy Warne, MBA, RD/LD!
