Q: What is strategic purchasing for health? 🤔💭 A: Strategic purchasing for #health involves using tools and leveraging purchasing power for decision-making about buying medicines and services from providers. It can create incentives for providers to be more efficient and to deliver high-quality care, and it can direct the population through the health system to use services in the most cost-effective way. 🏥👏 Learn more about #strategicpurchasing and how it can help countries move toward #universalhealthcoverage with our handy Q&A. ⤵️ #globalhealth #healthcare #uhc

A new Results for Development report reveals several concerning trends in donor funding for high-impact #nutrition interventions, including near-stagnant disbursements between 2020 and 2022. The report, “Tracking aid for the WHA nutrition targets: Progress toward the global nutrition goals between 2015-2022,” examines data on donor disbursements for scaling up the World Health Assembly’s priority nutrition interventions across the eight-year period. In addition to plateauing funding, the latest edition of this report unearthed a roughly 20% gap in the funding needed for the priority nutrition interventions in 2022 alone. That gap, which has accumulated since 2015, reached a staggering $2.1 billion in 2022. Explore the full report and read its other takeaways at the link below. #globalnutrition #nutritionfunding #nutritioninterventions #globalhealth

Last month, R4D hosted a Multiple Micronutrient Supplements (MMS) roadmap costing workshop in Addis Ababa to train partners and gather feedback on a new interactive, customizable tool designed to support the costing and scaling of national and sub-national #MMS introduction. The new tool, which R4D developed in collaboration with kupara consulting, features a user-friendly interface that assists users in estimating the costs of all activities necessary for a successful transition from iron folic acid (IFA) to MMS. It includes a variety of categories such as product procurement, demand generation, advocacy and coordination. Government partners from Ethiopia, Nigeria and Pakistan, as well as Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation grantees, attended the workshop, which marked a milestone in the foundation’s efforts to advance maternal and newborn health in these countries — and underscored the importance of equipping partners with practical tools designed to drive sustainable change. Once finalized, the MMS costing tool will be publicly available on R4D’s website, and we look forward to sharing it with you soon! #maternalhealth #globalhealth #maternalandnewbornhealth #multiplemicronutrientsupplements
