We continue Winthrop Rockefeller’s collaborative approach to creating transformational change.
About us
Our Mission: We continue Winthrop Rockefeller's collaborative approach to creating transformational change. Our Vision: We envision a future where every person is empowered to bring their unique perspective to bear on the most monumental of challenges and participate in the search for solutions. Our Method: We engage our resources and Winthrop Rockefeller’s values to convene purposeful gatherings on his historic cattle ranch. We do this work by employing the “Rockefeller Ethic” which represents the belief that diversity of opinion, engaging in respectful dialogue, and practicing collaborative problem solving combine to create transformational change. The productive energy of our mountaintop location coupled with the highest levels of hospitality ensure all who come here are able to do their best work. The Rockefeller Ethic: Collaborative Problem Solving + Respectful Dialogue + Diversity of Opinion = Transformational Change

This week's #EmployeeSpotlight is special! We're highlighting our amazing program officer, Alyssa Ghaleb, and celebrating #CivicHealthMonth by featuring #CivicArkansas, the program Alyssa leads. Alyssa joined us just over two months ago and has been doing a fantastic job. She stressed the importance of the community listening sessions that the Institute has been leading in communities around the state, and she wants to reach as many areas as possible. "We probably have the most listening sessions of the summer scheduled for this month," she said. "I'm making sure we're able to really talk to residents and hear and learn from them about what civic health looks like in their communities." Alyssa grew up in Bryant and later double majored in politics and French at Hendrix College. While obtaining her Master's degree at the Clinton School of Public Service, she also worked a handful of hospitality jobs. Her favorite was a family-owned Italian restaurant named Luigi's, the family of which she stays in contact with to this day!

A heartfelt thank you to My HR Pros, Fort Smith Regional Alliance, and City of Van Buren, Arkansas for supporting my participation in Community Development Institute (CDI) Central this week! I wanted to share 10 of the most impactful things I learned in Year 1: 1. A good leader inspires people to have confidence in the leader. A great leader inspires people to have confidence in themselves! 2. People don’t want to work where they don’t want to live. 3. Everyone has a voice and everyone has a role in their community. 4. Collaborative problem solving + respectful dialogue + diversity of opinion = transformative change 5. Data gives your story strength. 6. Your downtown is what your community thinks of itself. 7. 3 critical, often missed steps in volunteer management: increase responsibilities and growth opportunities, recognition and celebration, and exiting volunteers gracefully. 8. If my community is above average I can expect to live above the average lifespan. 9. Every leader needs to know 5 good things about their community. 10. What can you repurpose in your community to give you an advantage? Our keynote speaker was from the Winthrop Rockefeller Institute! She shared that moving to Petit Jean was the sunrise of Rockefeller’s dreams. I relate to that so much! I strongly encourage every community leader to consider participating in CDI. If you have any questions about the nationwide program, please let me know!
