Meet Nick Sager, one of our amazing Summer 2024 interns. Nick served as a procurement specialist intern in our corporate headquarters. His projects included product research, invoice reconciliation and group purchase organization contracting. Nick shared that, “Learning about my entire team’s background and how they ended up where they are now, really showed me a new perspective. Being able to sit in on a meeting and speak to someone from the whole other side of the country was really eye-opening and showed me the importance of relationships in health care. I came into this program not knowing what to think, but after the first day it felt like one big family with one mission.” Nick will be going back to Penn State in the fall and plans to apply what he learned during his internship in his major courses. Meet Bryce Weenink, one of our amazing Summer 2024 interns. Bryce served as a financial planning and analysis intern in our corporate headquarters. During his internship, he ran data reports and analyzed historical data and then presented his findings to the team. Bryce was able to enhance his Microsoft Excel skills and learned how to use various other databases as well. Bryce shared, “Thank you so much to Select Medical for this opportunity this summer! They treat the interns so well, and pour in countless time and effort to develop us as young professionals. Thank you to my boss, Colin Gardner, and my team for keeping me busy with meaningful, relevant tasks, being patient with my (many) questions and making things fun on a day-to-day basis!” Bryce will be starting a two-year Master’s program in Economics at Erasmus University in Rotterdam, the Netherlands this fall. Meet Olivia Dankanich, one of our amazing Summer 2024 interns. Olivia served as an outpatient recruitment intern in our corporate headquarters. She was able to jump fully into the recruitment process, which included sourcing candidates and making informational calls and phone screens. Olivia reflected, “My favorite part of the internship is the shadowing hours that I completed. I was able to complete over 30 hours of shadowing across the company. Some departments I have been able to shadow include human resources, legal, procurement, public relations and the administrative team at Penn State Health Rehabilitation Hospital.” Olivia will be going back to Penn State University in the fall to complete her last semester of her degree in Health Policy and Administration. Meet Kylie Gerst, one of our amazing Summer 2024 interns. Kylie served as a business development intern in our corporate headquarters. Her projects included regulatory research and creating a new Payor Portal. She gained experience using SmartSheets and other platforms as well. Kylie shared, “My favorite memories and most valuable part of the internship were my shadowing hours. It allowed me to meet with people from all backgrounds/departments and learn more about their experiences! It also allowed me to get professional advice, as well as create new connections to utilize in my future career! Hearing from leaders in the field during luncheons was also a helpful addition to the internship, as we got to learn more about the company and its functioning parts.” Kylie will continue working with Select Medical on a part-time basis in the fall while she finishes her senior year at Penn State. Our Summer 2024 interns gathered with their colleagues and Robert A. Ortenzio, executive chairman and co-founder, for a celebratory luncheon. Throughout the program, interns participated in various projects, enjoyed professional networking opportunities, met with members of leadership, went on hospital and outpatient center tours and job shadowed. Thank you to each one of our interns for their great work, and to their mentors for providing them excellent feedback and guidance throughout their experience.
