  • Tracey DeWire worked in sales for 16 years before deciding to become a nurse practitioner, a decision inspired by her best friend’s cancer diagnosis. Since then, she has dedicated herself to serving patients and families at the Vanderbilt Breast Center. When asked what keeps them (her patients) coming back, several of them described the personal engagement that she brings to each visit. “Tracey is personable and approachable. She makes me feel like I’m more than a patient because she really wants to know what is going on in my life. She is a treasure," said a nominator. Join us in congratulating her on her Patient and Family Choice Award! https://bit.ly/4cjDx9o

  • Today’s Friday Introduction is with Christine Deyholos, MD, vascular surgeon. In her words: “ What I like about my work: As a vascular surgeon, we take care of patients with both chronic and sometimes emergent conditions that threaten their life or their limbs. We take care of these patients over many years of their life, not just when they need surgery. Vascular surgery is also innovative and technically challenging. We use both open surgical and advanced endovascular tools to get the best outcomes for our patients. Believe it or not I went into medicine thinking I wanted to [work in] infectious disease, after spending some months in Africa during my undergraduate degree. In medical school, however, I fell in love with surgery and never looked back. I am married to another Vanderbilt physician. I am also a new mother, with a baby at home along with our goofy English Shepard, Bear. My favorite food is steak. In my free time, I like to hang out with the baby. I love being outdoors hiking, walking or biking around Nashville and the surrounding area. My favorite places in Nashville are Percy and Edward Warner Parks. “ Join us in making health care personal: https://bit.ly/4cs0lVc

Today, on Panda Cares Day, we want to say thank you to Panda Restaurant Group for supporting Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt through Children's Miracle Network Hospitals since 2007. In recognition of Panda’s commitment of more than $1.8 million to support pediatric behavioral health and the Child Life team at Monroe Carell, we recently unveiled new signage establishing our sibling playroom as a Panda Cares® Center of Hope. Panda Cares Centers of Hope are spaces in CMN hospitals across the country that are designed to provide a safe and comforting place where kids can be kids again. Powered by donations from Panda Express associates and guests, the Panda Cares Center of Hope at Monroe Carell will focus on four key pillars of pediatric health care programs and services, not only for patients but also for their siblings and caregivers. These four areas put an emphasis on caring for every aspect of a child’s well-being and will include initiatives that address their physical, emotional, mental and spiritual needs. • Vanderbilt Health at Walgreens clinics and Vanderbilt Health Walk-In Clinics have a new assistant medical director: Dr. Lynn Holliday! More about her, in her own words: "I am a family physician, and I’ve worked full-time with the Vanderbilt Walk-In Clinics since 2014. Prior to that I practiced full-spectrum family medicine with obstetrics in Grand Junction, Colorado. My husband, Paul, is from Middle Tennessee, so when we moved home, Vanderbilt was the easy choice. It’s my alma mater, and its reputation is the premier choice for health care in Middle Tennessee. I'm proud to be Vanderbilt-trained and part of its world-class network of providers! I’m originally from Butler, Pennsylvania, and still have family there. I tell my patients that I come from a family of teachers, counselors and lawyers, so I come by my reputation as a good communicator that way. My family is also filled with musicians. I grew up playing several instruments, most recently violin. I play very part-time second violin in the Nashville Philharmonic Orchestra, a volunteer community orchestra. In 2007 I married Paul, who was a Vanderbilt surgical assistant at the time. He built the cabin you see in the family photo, on Cane Creek in Pleasantville, where he grew up working their farm with horse-drawn equipment. He now manages our beef cattle farm and wrangles our two growing boys. Service to others is an important part of my life. I try to be a servant-type leader among peers at Vanderbilt. I work hard to make the Vanderbilt at Walgreens and Walk-In Clinics your first choice for care when you need quick, convenient care. We support Vanderbilt’s primary care and specialty clinics. Our goal is to work with you and your doctors to provide a seamless experience no matter where you get care." If you or your loved one is sick or has a minor injury, Vanderbilt Health helps you get better fast. We offer dozens of locations with convenient hours throughout Middle Tennessee. • Vanderbilt University Institute of Imaging Science (VUIIS) has added an X-ray velocimetry (XV) — the first of its kind at an academic medical center — capable of measuring how individual areas of the lung are functioning as breaths are taken. The XV scanner combines fluoroscopy with analytical software to visually document the lung’s air flow as color heat maps. This allows a correlation of the lung’s function to the lung’s structures. For more on the scanner, see the full story below. https://bit.ly/4dx9rjy
