    WittKieffer completed proprietary research on the career paths of presidents at the top 50 liberal arts colleges (according to the US News & World Report), based on publicly available data from institution websites, press releases, BoardEx, and LinkedIn (as of 2024). The key takeaways: - Progressive diversity: 58% of current presidents are women, and 30% are people of color. - Impending wave of retirements: 21% of presidents are currently aged 65 years and above. - Significant leadership turnover: 40% of presidents were appointed within the last two years. - Route to the presidency: Almost all presidents (96%) have been appointed externally. A substantial portion of presidents (40%) previously served as deans immediately prior to their presidential appointment. Overall, the data suggests that the landscape of the liberal arts presidency is changing, with a greater emphasis on diversity, external experience, and an accelerated shift away from traditional pathways. #collegepresidents #liberalarts #higheredleadership
