Atmos is a nonprofit media organization dedicated to the exploration of climate and culture. We publish a biannual magazine and daily stories on our website and social media platforms, curated by a global ecosystem of artists, activists, and writers devoted to ecological and social justice, creative storytelling, and re-enchantment with the natural world.
Position Summary:
The Development Director is responsible for planning, organizing, and directing all of Atmos's fundraising efforts, including the membership program, major gifts program, annual fund, special events, and project campaigns. The Development Director works closely with the Managing Director in all development and fundraising endeavors.
Key Responsibilities:
Develop and implement a comprehensive fundraising plan that aligns with the organization's strategic plan and annual budget.This includes identifying and setting specific fundraising targets to support the organization's programs and initiatives.
Identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward major gift prospects and donors, including individuals, family offices, foundations, and corporations
Write and submit grant proposals to foundations, corporations, and government agencies to secure funding for Atmos's programs and initiatives
Develop and manage the membership program and all related communications and promotions.
Oversee the annual fund, including all communications and online giving campaigns
Plan and execute fundraising events, including donor cultivation events
Work with the Managing Director to develop and implement project campaigns
Develop and deliver compelling presentations and pitches to secure funding for project campaigns, tailoring content and messaging to the interests and priorities of prospective donors, and effectively conveying the impact and value of the organization's initiatives.
Prepare and monitor the development budget, including revenue and expense projections
Maintain accurate and complete records of all fundraising activities, including donor information, gift records, and fundraising reports
Serve as an ambassador for Atmos, promoting the mission, values, and offerings to donors, prospects, and the community
Cultivate relationships with prospective donors through active participation in networking events, conferences, and other in-person engagements, serving as an ambassador for the organization and effectively communicating its mission, values, and impact.
Develop and maintain regular communication with donors, including updates on the organization's activities, impact, and use of funds, to foster donor engagement and retention.
Provide regular reports to the Managing Director on fundraising progress, including updates on revenue goals, donor engagement, and campaign performance, to inform strategic decision-making and ensure alignment with the organization's mission and priorities.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in a related field
Minimum of 7-10 years of fundraising experience, with a proven track record of success in major gift fundraising, annual fund management, and fundraising events with prior experience building a fundraising program from scratch
Excellent communication skills, both written and oral, with the ability to build and maintain relationships with donors, prospects, and community members
Strong knowledge of fundraising best practices, including donor research, cultivation, and stewardship, with a strong network of contacts already established
Proficiency in donor database management and fundraising software
Experience with and connections to the arts and culture space. Additional experience with other publications is ideal
Passion for the earth’s sustainability and the mission of Atmos
Salary and Benefits:
Range $135,000 - $150,000
