This Electrical Engineer Associate position is a unique opportunity to work across numerous internal Seattle City Light divisions and city departments as a technical lead for customer plan review. You will build relationships with many as you lead and assist in the review of design plans and specifications by public and private development for conformance with Seattle City Light requirements for electrical service connections. This position serves a key technical plan review role for internal and external customers. This position will report to the Engineering Customer Systems Senior Manager.

The Associate Electrical Engineer duties in Plan Review will be to read and interpret customer plans, specifications, property descriptions and related documents, provide review and/or route for additional review, culminating in responsive review comments on behalf of our Utility. Associate Electrical Engineers provide lead engineering experience for new or enlarged electrical services and any related system modifications for customer service requests. Their duties begin with the analysis of the customer’s request and identification of any minor system modifications that are best suited to align with the customer’s needs while also supporting the requirements of Seattle City Light requirements for electrical service connections.

Required Qualifications: In addition to the skills and experience mentioned below, a successful applicant will have experience that reflects a commitment to creating fair and equitable outcomes and has:

Requires three years of professional electrical engineering experience and a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering or other combinations of education and/or experience which provides preparation to do professional electrical engineering work.

Work Environment/Physical Demands

  • Most work is performed in a normal City work/office environment.
  • Field assignments may entail exposure to all types of weather, traffic, hazardous/toxic substances, high voltage energized equipment and work in or near construction sites.
  • May be required to stand, walk, or bend for extended periods of time.
  • May be required to work nights, evenings, weekends, and/or holidays.
  • Overnight travel may be required.

License, Certification and Other Requirements

Current Washington State driver's license or evidence of equivalent mobility.

Additional Information

The full salary range for this position is $55.26 - $64.50 per hour.

Desired Qualifications - You will be successful if you have the following experience, skills, and abilities:

  • Working knowledge of the principles, practices, and procedures of Seattle City Light engineering.
  • Five years of professional electrical engineering experience.
  • Familiar with NEC and NESC codes.
  • Familiar with SCL Construction Standards and Requirements for Electrical Service Connections
  • Demonstrated experience, skills, and abilities in serving internal and external customers.
  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD, WAMS, Current View, Voltage Drop, and Cable Tension programs.
  • Working knowledge of BlueBeam and Acela.
  • Familiar with City of Seattle departmental plan review processes.
