Head of Institutional Partnerships (HIP)

The Head of Institutional Partnerships is responsible, with the support and approval of the Chief Partnerships Officer, for articulating and delivering on Muso’s institutional funding strategy to cultivate and secure six, seven and eight- figure grants from institutional donors. 


The Institutional Partnerships team is responsible for a portfolio of donors and prospects including major health system funders, the Global Fund, GAVI, the World Bank, USAID, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, and other key bi- and multilateral funders, as well as support on messaging to global norm-setting actors like WHO and UNICEF. The HIP will also collaborate closely with Muso’s Technical Assistance (TA) team, backstopping the organization’s government (MoH) focused partnerships that generate revenue for Muso activities.  


This position reports to the Chief Partnerships Officer and works closely with the Leadership Team. This role will have managing responsibilities with 2-3 direct reports.

Responsibilities


Strategy Development, Institutional Fundraising :


  • Oversee Muso’s engagement and resource mobilization with key institutional funding prospects including USAID, Government of Canada, GAVI, Agence Francaise de Developpement, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Global Fund, World Bank, and other key country government funders, ensuring alignment between opportunity and Muso’s strategy.
  • Identify and build prime, sub, and consortium partnerships with mission-aligned organizations, increasing Muso’s eligibility and competitiveness for institutional funding.
  • In collaboration with the CPO, develop a robust pipeline of prospects to ensure diversification of funding sources to pursue and secure beyond the current portfolio of institutional donors. 
  • Collaborate closely with the Director of Technical Assistance to identify institutional resources for our TA work and for Muso government partners and others to scale our tested strategies.
  • Steward internal process changes necessary to solicit, receive, manage, and report on institutional funding, collaborating closely with CPO, COO, Senior Manager for M&E, and Head of Finance & Accounting. 


External Affairs & Partner Engagement :


  • Represent Muso’s advocacy and development priorities at select conferences and partner meetings, organize advocacy-related events and presentations, and host donor visits when needed.
  • Facilitate external engagement and advocacy opportunities for Muso leadership, senior management, and frontline providers (e.g. CHW Advocates), prepping communications materials and talking points, supporting travel and logistics planning when needed, and ensuring follow-up.
  • Collaborate with Muso’s Communications team and other Development sub-team colleagues within the Partnerships Department, to identify new and different ways of framing our work for potential funders, particularly related to Muso research and government partnership.


Team Management :


  • Oversee all members of Muso’s sub-team focused on institutional funding with 2-3 direct reports. 
  • Manage and coach Institutional Partnerships Managers to prospect, prioritize, and develop relationships with key donors and mission-aligned consortium partners, establish their own workplans and implement overall funding strategy. 
  • Lead institutions sub-team to track, report on and pivot fundraising approaches as needed based on donor intel and trends, using the Salesforce CRM system. 



Skills & Experience


  • Commitment to social justice, equitable health systems, and imagining radical solutions to global health issues.
  • 5-10 years of proven experience in non-profit fundraising or business development with institutional funders, including bilateral aid agencies, the Global Fund, and/or GAVI 
  • Experience in and knowledge of the global and public health sectors a plus
  • Demonstrated experience managing teams and in a supervisory role
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills in French and English
  • Flexibility and ability to adapt in a rapidly growing team and organization 
  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively across departments, cultures, languages, and time zones
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously in a deadline-driven environment
  • Fluency in French a plus
