Position Overview

The Senior Accounts Payable (AP) Accountant is responsible for the full cycle of AP processing; general ledger responsibilities related to expense; and mentoring of staff. The Senior AP Accountant plays a key role in pursuing process improvements and ensuring stewardship for the organization.

Essential Duties

  • Prepares month-end AP accrual and corporate credit card expense journal entries.
  • Prepares AP-related balance sheet reconciliations for month-end close.
  • Leads, assists with, and/or supports key projects and initiatives, such as process improvements and efficiencies.
  • Oversees billable/pass-through and grant invoice expense process.
  • Prepares standard operating procedures for AP.
  • Assists with banking functions, such as preparing ACHs/wires, managing positive pay or confirming check clearing.
  • Coordinates and oversees annual 1099 process in conjunction with Accounting Manager.
  • Reviews AP invoices coded by AP Specialists.
  • Prepares deliverables and ad hoc data requests for the external audit team and other third parties.
  • Collaborates with and prepares deliverables for internal staff as requested.
  • Mentors junior staff and intern-level accountants.
  • Contributes ideas to improve processes, create efficiencies, reduce costs, and streamline overall workflow.
  • Handles other duties as assigned.


Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting (or related field) or equivalent relevant combination of education and experience preferred.
  • Five to seven years of AP experience required, preferably with leadership and/or mentoring background.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office, including intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Excel.
  • Intermediate-level skills and knowledge of ERP systems; NetSuite and Sage 500 a plus.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • High degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work within a team.
  • Strong understanding of full-cycle AP, GL structures and chart of accounts.

Base Pay Overview

The typical offer range for this role is minimum to midpoint $70,214 - $87,767), with the midpoint representing the average pay in a national market scope for this position. Please keep in mind that this range represents the pay range for all positions in the job grade within which this position falls. The actual salary offer will consider a wide range of factors directly relevant to this position, including, but not limited to, skills, knowledge, training, responsibility, and experience, as well as internal equity and alignment with market data.
