Position Summary:
The Sr. Accountant will report to the VP of Construction and play a key role in supporting the CFO with financial oversight and strategic analysis for development projects. You will ensure the accuracy and efficiency of financial processes while providing insightful reporting to empower informed decision-making.
Project Leadership and Financial Oversight:
Collaborate with Project Managers throughout the project lifecycle, leading the creation, analysis, and monitoring of development project budgets
Proactively identify and address potential budget variances or issues, ensuring projects stay on schedule and within budget
Manage contracts, oversee financial compliance, and streamline construction payments through accurate processing and reporting on pay applications and loan draws
Partner with the development team to provide insightful financial analysis and support strategic decision-making
Financial Reporting and Analysis:
Oversee the closing process for real estate transactions, analyze settlements, record financial entries, and prepare comprehensive financial reports
Lead and manage the preparation of monthly financial statement packages (balance sheet, income statement, cash flow) and supporting working papers
Generate ad-hoc reports on project performance and financial health for timely insights to stakeholders
Maintain a strong system of internal controls to ensure the accuracy and integrity of financial data
Financial Management Expertise:
Manage the full accounts payable cycle for development projects, including invoice processing, vendor compliance, and disbursement oversight
Lead the allocation of payroll costs across various projects with precision and efficiency
Oversee the calculation of returns and manage the distribution of equity and profits
Support year-end 1099 preparation and collaborate on tax return preparation processes
Qualifications:
The ideal candidate will have worked in the real estate industry, construction accounting, and property accounting
This position will require the candidate to have extensive experience with construction requisitions, working with lenders and reporting
Strong organizational skills with attention to detail
Strong verbal and written communication skills
Accounting or business degree required, CPA is a plus
Three or more years of work experience preferred
