Studio Technician, Photography + Video

Cleveland Institute of Art invites applications for the position of Studio Technician, Photography + Video reporting to the Assistant Dean of Faculty and Academic Affairs. This role supports the Photography and Video program and monitors all related spaces.

The ideal candidate should possess exceptional communication skills as you will be coordinating with instructors and other Studio Technicians to create and lead workshops, demonstrations, and assist students with safe equipment and material use. It is the Studio Technician’s responsibility to ensure all students, staff, and faculty are operating in compliance with Institutional and Photo + Video specific Environmental Health and Safety policies and procedures. Studio Technicians are also responsible for conducting required student safety training, routine equipment repair & maintenance, and assisting with shop infostructure build projects. Strong organizational skills are also crucial to this role as the Studio Technician is responsible for monitoring consumables and material inventory across shops and spaces.

It is vital that the Studio Technicians have the ability to work both independently as well as with various groups of others effectively. Being able to work with others in a fast-paced environment is key to this role and candidates should be able to navigate multiple projects, amid changing priorities, and timelines.

A Bachelor’s degree in this related field or 2+ years of experience is required for this position. Broad working knowledge of Photography + Video processes, materials, history, and resources; digital & analog photography, large-format printing, darkroom, alternative photo processes, lighting equipment, sound recording, etc. Familiarity with health and safety regulations, safe shop practices, and safe operation of tools and equipment. Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Outlook, Google suite.

This position works during the Academic Year and is only scheduled between the months of August and May.

Compensation

This is a part-time benefits eligible non-exempt position. Compensation is commensurate with experience and qualifications. Cleveland Institute of Art offers a benefit package including; vacation, sick, personal time accrual as well as additional time off while the college is closed during winter break; health and dental insurance, life and disability insurance, 403B retirement contribution, tuition remission, free campus parking, and inter-museum council discounts.
