My presentation at the American Public Health Conference 2023 titled “Can EPROM help prioritize booking appointments in the UK’s NHS ophthalmology department?” opened a whole lot of conversation around the use of patient reported outcomes measures (PROMs) (aka patients completing online questionnaires about how their health condition is affecting their quality of life or experiencing symptoms) but the audience didn’t focus on the benefits and potential use of of it- even the cost/opportunity benefits to the health system- rather, some of the audience wanted to know more about how it could be implemented and scaled up. Often times, the discussion of this topic is focused around the benefits of using it and the outcomes it could produce to improve healthcare delivery and health outcomes —leaving out the most important bit of how to actually implement it in a complex environment within #digitalhealth #telehealth #telemedicine #telehealthsolutions Happy to talk with anyone more about implementing ePROMs #ePROMS #PROMs #patientreportedoutcomemeasures #implementationscience #evergreenlife #implementingdigitalhealth #apha2023

Good advice on whistleblowing: 1. Don’t do it on your own 2. Methodically collect evidence & present your case to someone capable of acting on the concerns 3. Educate yourself 4. Don’t take assurance of support on face value
Featured on the hub today, a video and article published in Trends in Urology and Men's Health, in which Peter Duffy shares his experience of what it is to be a whistle-blower in the NHS, in the context of historical scandals of UK healthcare and whistleblowing, examining the roles of the NHS itself, the regulators and the law in the ensuing events: https://lnkd.in/eG_-9_JJ #pslhub #patientsafety #avoidableharm #blameculture #speakingup #whistleblowing #safetyculture #organisationalculture

You want to know the spending for #dentalcare in Europe ... ... so make sure you check the study "Oral health care in Europe - Financing, Access and Provision". The authors Dr. Juliane Winkelmann, Jesus Gomez Rossi and Ewout van Ginneken (under the leadership of European Observatory on Health Systems and Policies) invetigated into the differences in oral health care spending in 22 countries. Detailed analysis and graphics show public vs. private spending, how this evolved over time and how the access to and coverage by public dental healthcare influence the use and impact. Decay (caries) (33% of the EU population), periodontal disease (16%) and tooth loss (10%) are the most prominent issues. https://lnkd.in/e6K5aaWY #dental #dentistry #dentalimplants

One of the fastest ways to improve health outcomes across the board is to improve health literacy. This applies on a macro and micro level. It applies across specialties and healthcare professions. If you are a surgeon, use social media to educate your current (and future) patients on the importance of sticking to their post-surgery rehab plan. If you are a GP, use social media to educate everyone in your local area about why antibiotics are not effective against viral illnesses. Don't send them a link to a generic video, or even worse, give them a leaflet. Your patients want to hear from you. Your patients want to see you. Your patients are on social media. Meet them there. #healthcare #medicine #healthcaremarketing
