For this podcast, the Confident Retirement, there's a twist: I was the one interviewed, not the one asking the questions. (I like it better the other way - but that was fun - thanks for inviting me on, Kristopher Flammang CRPC®AIF®BFA®) Oh - and I'm not retiring :) Some of the things we talked about: * My early journalism career change to being a juvenile probation office for three years; • Why and how the Business Observer has made a transtions to #digitalfirst — and why we keep the focus on that; and • The lessons I've learned from interviewing hundreds of entrepreneurs ands business owners Take a listen!

My latest leadership column in Business Observer is on Bryan Stern. His bio, in short: He's a Purple Heart combat veteran (Army and Navy!) who now runs an independent group, Tampa-based Grey Bull Rescue, that rescues Americans in dicey situations across the world. They've gone on 600+ missions and rescued 7.000 people. We talked over zoom while I was in a conference room in Sarasota and Bryan was standing in front of a stone wall in Lebanon. Hard to leave the conversation with not being wildy impressed with Bryan (and not only because we are both from NY and NY Mets fans -#LFGM.) Some snippets of Bryan's mindset: • Why does he do this? Loyally to his military roots. "That oath doesn’t have an expiration date,” Bryan says. “It’s like a tattoo. It never goes away." • The must-do factor for any leader: "Leaders never ever give up,. There is no no. It’s find another way.” Get to know Bryan in the link below!

I say often at the Business Observer: We don't write stories to get clicks. We write to inform and inspire readers. And in year three of investing more time and resources into our digital news we have learned that our readers — business owners, nonprofit leaders, executives, decisionmakers and more in nine counties on the west coast of Florida — want one thing above all else. That thing is #news. So not surprising that out most viewed stories in the first half of 2024 are big news stories about people and entities doing something: buying, selling, demolishing closing, opening and more. Check out the top 10 in the story below - and if you haven't signed up to get our Daily Brief delivered to your inbox - do it now! PS: Hat tip to Louis Llovio for leading us to do more, go deeper and be better on #digitalfirst.

Latest From the Corner Office podcast episode has dropped. Fun chat with Chon Nguyen who is an owner (a very active one) in both as restaurant business and an IT business. Some of Chon's wisdom includes: • In a growing business, treat your processes and systems like you are larger than you are And • Treat your team members with the same level of hospitality as you would treat customers. I've interviewed Chon a few times now and one other thing stands out besides the facrt that he's whip-smart. He's also an all around nice guy. Get to know him -listen below!

Pretty cool experience today: Was invited to throw out the first pitch at a Fort Myers Mighty Mussels game - thanks John Martin and Dan Lauer. (Not sure a tryout is forthcoming, but I didn't totally embarrass myself.) The pitch invite was part of a promotion of the Business Observer From the Corner Office podcast. John was a guest in episode 54, which dropped June 20. Take a listen here: https://lnkd.in/eTChY-ya

New story in Business Observer I wrote about The ARK at JFK - one of the largest animal handling facilities in the world. It was founded and is run by a #Naples couple. Fun story to write!
