As Jamaica braces for a potentially devastating strike from Hurricane Beryl, many on the U.S. Gulf Coast are watching and waiting, if not for an organized Beryl, but for the rain it could bring along the Gulf Coast. National Hurricane Center director Michael Brennan on Tuesday advised residents on the Texas coast to keep checking on the forecast through the long holiday weekend. Beryl and its peak winds of 165 mph have definitely earned a place in the history books. Beryl is the first to form so far east in the Atlantic in June, the third earliest major hurricane in Atlantic, the strongest July hurricane on record and the earliest Category 5 on record. At USA TODAY, we are publishing live updates on Beryl's potential track and the devastation the hurricane is leaving in its wake in the Caribbean, including on Carriacou. Beryl certainly reminds me of hurricane Emily from 2005. Hopefully the rest of the season is not like 2005, but it wouldn't surprise me.

Our thoughts are with everyone in the storm's path right now.

Thank you for all you do, Dinah! If it helps any I've got people-friendlier wind speed probabilities posted at https://stuckaweather.dyndns.org/windprobabilities/!!index.html ... I think Beryl gets updated at 5 a.m., 11 a.m., 5 p.m., 11 p.m. That code is open-sourced through <checks notes> GateHouse Media if anyone wants it.
